Procedure on how to Hot swap Drive HP Proliant DL380 G7 server

Hi everyone,

Please advise i have a HP ProLiant DL380 G7 with 3 hard drives running in Logical Drive 2 RAID 5
I'm getting some errors of one of my hard drives as i run the Hpdiags.
Logical Drive 2, 1.2 TB, Raid 5

This hard drive is reporting this error:

Hard Drive 6, 600.1 GB, 10k RPM, SAS, HP EG0600FBDBU
Failed
Error: F149:     The controller has reported a S.M.A.R.T. error on this drive.
Error: F134:     The drive has reported a drive self test (DST) error.
Error: F151:      The monitor and performance logs indicate that the drive returned a status of bad hardware.
Error: F152:      The monitor and performance logs indicate a format (remapping defects) status.
Error: F153:      The monitor and performance logs indicate that the drive returned a status of predictive failure.
Error: F155:      The read/write hard error rate recorded in the monitor and performance log is above the acceptable threshold.
Error: F157:      The controller has reported a critical error in the drive error log.

As i observed there is one hard drive flashing amber light repeatedly in the server rack, i have a doubt that this is the failed hard drive reporting this error. What would be the procedure upon replacing the drive, do i need to do some console or clone the faulty one to the new drive? or just replace it rightaway with the newer one, as i've been searching online the procedure is showing on how to remove and replace with a newer one hotswapping.

Please advise

Many thanks.

HP SAS 2tb disk predicted to fail soon, need recover data in it...

Here's my problem hope some one can put me in the correct path...

I have 2 Proliant DL180 G6 servers with almost identical hardware, but the Hard Drives

-No.1 have only one 2tb sas disk with VMvare ESXI 5.0 (predicted to fail soon)

-No.2 Have 2 2Tb sas disk in Raid mirror with Wndows Server 2008 R2.

I took the fail HD from the ESXI server and put it on the Windows Server, it read the disk and mounted 3 logcal disk with some data from ESXI server but obviously not the Linux partition where ESXI stored the data of my virtual machine that I need to recover.

But my problem is when I tryed to put back the Fail HD to his original Server, it says that no have any logical hd in the P410 Smart Controller, and I'm affraid if I do a logical drive may I will lose the HD data?

Can some one help me?

Critical event message will not be displayed in SIM event list even some hardware was broken.

Hello, all.
I have a question about the configurations of HP SIM.
Now I am using several ProLiant Server which are ML350 G5, ML150 G6, ML350p G8, and ML350 G9.
I have HP ACU(or SSA),SMH, SIM installed on each server.

A while ago, I noticed that the Smart Storage Battery for Smart Array P440ar Controller on ML350 G9 was broken, but it seems that there was no critical message displayed in SIM event list.
After several days, I confirmed that exactly the same phenomenon occurred on ML350p G8.
I checked SSA and sure that Smart Storage Battery was broken on both ML350 G9 and ML350p G8.

In the past the same occurred on ML350 G5 server, the following message was showed at events list correctly.
Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040)
Warning: Accelerator Board Status Change (3038)
But on ML350 G9 and ML350p G8, only "Accelerator Board Status Change (3038)" messages was displayed as "Warning".

I tried the following methods to solve this problem on ML350 G9, but it was not resolved.
"Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040)" message still was not displayed.
-Update BIOS, iLO, Array Controller firmware to the latest version.
-Update SIM to ver7.6.0
-Upadte SSA, SMH to the latest version.

Below are the results I confirmed.
-ML350Gen9, SIM ver7.4, SmartArray P440ar: NG (Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040) message was not displayed.)
-ML350Gen9, SIM ver7.6, SmartArray P440ar: NG (Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040) message was not displayed.)
-ML350pGen8, SIM ver7.1, SmartArray P420i: NG (Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040) message was not displayed.)
-ML350 G5, SIM ver5.1, SartArray P400: OK (Critical: Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040) message was displayed.)

Have anyone ever seen the same phenomenon?
(Critical message was not displayed even though the hardware has failed)
Or do I need to change some congirugation manually at HP SIM?

Thanks!

Been trying to update the firmware on these cards with no resolve. Here is what Intel emailed back after opening a support case with them.

Hello,

An update was made to service request 02997240 on August 11, 2017

Hello Javier,

Thank your for contacting Intel, your case number is 02997240.

According to the Firmware Versions for Intel® Solid State Drives and Intel® Optane™ Memory article, found here:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/memory-and-storage/000017245.html

the latest firmware version is 8DV101H0 with Bootloader 8B1B0133. This means that, yes, most likely you need to update.

However, based on several points you mention on your original request we must inform you the following:

  • An update can only be performed if the SSD is attached directly to the server, not when attached thru a RAID controller. Please ensure the SSD is attached directly to the server before updating.
  • Your product could not be located in our database with the serial and models you have provided.
  • If this is an OEM SSD then our retail software will not work and could even damage the unit. Since this is an HP server an easy way to figure out if the SSD is OEM is because it shows the phrase HP P/N in its label. If this is an OEM drive then only HP can help you update the firmware.

Please let us know if you require further assistance.

So where do I find the latest firmware on HP site? I am unable to locate it or they want us to use the Intel method?

Thanks in advanced.

Javier

Drive array - Steady blink - no boot

Hello, All -

Trying to resolve a boot issue with a Proliant DL1000 with a P410 controller.

The server stops booting at a blank screen with a flashing cursor.  It was online and fine as of Friday - was like this when I came in this morning.

All of the drives in one of the two RAID 5 arrays are blinking a steady, intermittent green on the left LED every 2-3 seconds.  The other array just has solid green lights.

When I go into the ROM based array utility, both arrays, and all of the member drives show as healthy.

Any ideas what may be going on here?

Thanks in advace for any input/ideas.

Advice on building "storage servers" with two DL380 G7 servers

$

I'm not sure why, but our two DL380 G7 servers have two different part numbers O_o... (583914-B21 and P01227).  I'm assuming (and hoping) that these two servers both take the same exact parts.

Each server is currently configured with two 146GB SAS drives in a RAID 10 setup (running Windows Server 2008 R2).

We'd like to upgrade these to be storage servers for all of our backups, so the initial thought is that we'll remove the optical drive from each and install the additional 8-bay SFF drive cages and populate all of the drive slots (the original two drives will still host the OS, and the remaining 14 drives would be pooled into one big RAID 10 array; on each server).

Each server currently has a P410i and a P411 controller cards installed (not sure if that's a factory default setup, but it appears to be).  Each server also has two 460 watt PSUs.

I have some questions:

1. Is our intended setup possible?  If so, is it possible to use our existing raid controllers?  Would we need to order any sort of additional "riser board" or "expander"?

2. Which parts would we need in order to achieve our goal?  For instance, if we want the PSUs to be fully redundant, would we need to buy larger ones in order to provide enough power for all of the hard drives that will be installed?  Would two 750 watt PSUs suffice? (part number 599383-001)  I'm also assuming we'll need the backplane board (507690-001) and the SFF 8-bay drive cage assembly (496074-001), but I'm not sure if we also need the hard drive backplane power cable (496070-001) and/or what other cables we'll need (or if the drive cage or backplane board come with cables).

Thanks so much for whatever info someone is able to provide!

Hi,

I have a proliant dl 560 gen8 server with Windows 2008r2 installed. I have to attach to it disk enclosure DELL powervoult MD1400. I also have DELL PERC H830 RAID controller. However, when I attach the RAID controller to my server, after power on I get red screen and ‘illigal Opcode’ error.

Any ideas how to fix the problem?

Or maybe I could use HP Smart Array controller with Dell Powervoult MD 1400?

PS. Bios version in my HP server is 08.03.2014

Thanks for suggestions.

[ProLiant DL380 G8] Firmware update.

Hi.

I need information about updating the firmware of my ProLiant DL380 Gen8 servers. But the warranty of the newest expired in 26/06/17.

So I would like to know how can I get those updates?

P.S.: I'm texting from Brazil.

Proliant DL580 G8 - Compatibility with custom image VMWare VSphere Update 3

I had previously updated two DL380 G9 servers using the HPe customer image.  I went to 'Drivers and Software' downloads for the DL380 G9 and found a link for the VSphere 6.0 Update 3 software under 'Software CD-ROM'.  I updated both servers without issue.

I have two DL580 G8 servers running VMWare VSphere 6.0 Update 1 and I want to update these servers to VMWare VSphere 6.0 Update 3.  I went to 'Drivers and Software' downloads for the DL580 G8.  However when I go to 'Software CD-ROM' the published update is VSphere 6.0 Update 2 from December 2016.

When I check HPs Server Support and Compatibility Matrix (http://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/vmware.aspx) I see that the Proliant DL580 G8 is compatible with VSphere 6.0 Update 3.

Is the 'Drivers and Software' page for the DL580 G8 just out date?
Can I use HPs custom VSphere 6 update 3 image to update the Proliant DL580 G8?

The VMWare software recipe doc shows VSphere 6 update 2 requires installing drives prior to applying update 2.  I would prefe using update 3 which has the drivers bundled in the image.  Also, I need the servers on update 3 accross the board.

Thank you...
