predictive failure and failure

Dear Hpe community

I have HP gen 8 dl 380 server with 500gb x 6 hard drives, during the weekend we had a power failure and the server went down.

When we come baclk to work we boot the server and we got 3 drivers with predictive failure warning and one failure drive.

We replace the failure drive and for more than 3 days, it is in the rebuild status.

The virtual machine within the server are unaccusable and sometimes it shows some respond.

Please advise.

Regards

Gen9 DL380 - Intelligent Provisioning can't install RedHat 7.3/7.4 and Firmware Update broken

I have access to a new Proliant Gen9 DL380 (BIOS v2.42) with ILO 4 v2.50 (Intelligent Provisioning v2.50) installed and I've tried to use HPE Intelligent Provisioning to install RedHat 7.4 from an ISO image on ILO virtual media. I can see the ISO image listed and select it but if I attempt to install from it, then it initially scans and then says "Unable to find any available media". The same thing happens if I try to install from a RedHat 7.3 image but if I select a RedHat 7.2 image it seems to work OK. I know both images are good.

My assumption is that RedHat 7.3 and 7.4 are not supported by ILO v2.50 - is that correct? Assuming it is then my next step was to try to do a server firmware update in the hope that the system will be upgraded to the latest versions (ILO v2.53 and Intelligent Provisioning v2.60). However when selecting "Firmware Update" from the Maintenance menu I get a message "Unable to contact update server" and a message saying that the site "hp.com" can't be contacted. This URL seems to be hard-coded when using the "HPE Web Site" System Software Update option but presumably it should now be connecting to a "hpe.com" website.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can point to the right update server to allow me to upgrade and then do the installation of RedHat 7.4? I really want to use Intelligent provisioning as it allows me the remote management automation I need.

Thanks for your help

We just got a brandnew DL380 Gen 10 and I was excited to see what's new. But after starting the "Intelligent" Provisioning, the excitement was replaced by laughter. It seems the software has been rushed to market without the usual testing.

Typing and translation errors (especially in German)
System hangs when trying to exit some menus (for example the SSA)
HTML variables are displayed instead of text (see pic)

Hello,

I have recently configured my 380 G8 with an Nvidia Titan (GTX 700 series) GPU installed via the secondary riser kit (double wide gpu type). It is running dual CPUs so no issue there, but aside from the fan spinning up on the card, I can't get Windows to see it, nor do I get any output from the ports on it. Please help!

Proliant DL360 Gen9 / boot from virtual ILO USB2

I have a Proliant DL360 Gen9 server with advanced license which I'd like to install Red Hat Linux on. Unfortunately, I am unable to boot  from the virtual media.  Booting from USB didn't work as well. I am offsite now so the only option available is to try to install via IRC. The server goes through the boot sequence  but finally comes up  " No bootable devices were detected". The firmware version is 2.53 May 03 2017.  I would be grateful for your advice.

HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen9: Runtime Fault, System Board, P12V Main/AUX Regulator 1 (04h).

Hello, noticed today through iLO4 2.55 (System ROM is U20 v2.40 of 02/17/2017) this IML System Error class message for the Server in subject:

Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, System Board, P12V Main/AUX Regulator 1 (04h))

The server has always had good health (it was updated with SPP 2017.07 months ago) and the message above was seen only today during normal maintenance (it happened the very first time on October at early morning (basically during a typical "no load" time for Server's disks, AFAIK).

I know it has System Programmable Logic Device at Version 0x10 (System Board) which I believe it's the same ProLiant DL180 Gen9 System Programmable Logic Device version 0x10 reported as CPLD - PAL0 with Informational Status on iLO4 Self-Test Results page.

The only Customer Advisory reference I was able to found was specifically about (updating CPLD on) HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen9 with a similar error (here)...but nothing exactly as reported above.

Any idea?

Looking for info about iLO installation errors

I recently attempted to upgrade the iLO version on one of my DL380p G8 servers.  I attempted to install from the iLO 2.55's CP032620.scexe installation file but it failed with a return code of '7' without any associated error text.  Subsequent attempts to upgrade the iLO version were successful, however.  In an effort to be thorough, I'm looking for some indication of what would trigger a return code of '7'.  Also, I noticed a slew of the following errors in syslog:

hpilo 0000:01:00.2: Open could not dequeue a packet

I see these errors in other places, so I'm not sure it's related, or if it can be safely ignored.

Thanks in advance!

Memory Test on DL380Gen10

$

Part of our server installation procedure is a 72 hour memory test.

This was included until Gen9 of the DL3x0 Servers.

For the new generation Gen10 there seems to be no memory test (according to hp support) and it is still unclear whether there will be on in some day of the future or not.

As we think that this still makes sense I want to ask what other persons of the community do/think.

There are of course a lot of linux images out there that can do memory tests but these seem not always to work properly. In the past the support always recommended to use the test that came with the server.

HP Proliant ML350 G6 Raid Issues

Hi my customer has a HP Proliant ML350G6 Server which seems to be having RAID Issues, it is setup with P410i controller (Firmware V3.0) and 5 x 250GB hot swap SATA Drives on a RAID5 cofiguration.

A week ago there were complaints of performance issues with the server, while diagnosing i checked the ACU which showed everything was fine, i then ran HP insight diagnostics on the drives which came back showing drives 2,3 and 4 were failing with high amounts of read/write errors and to replace.

I ordered replacement drives and attempted a hot swap of drive 2 yesterday, it started to rebuild the array and took about 12 hours to get to 100%, it then came back as drive failed and put the array into Interim Recovery Mode.  I am after advice what to do next, do i try another new drive in the same bay or could this be controller/bay issues?

Thanks in advance.

Error entering Raid 6 license key

I installed a Dl380G7 years ago which, for reasons passing human understanding, we had to purchase a license key to run the Raid 6 option of the on-board P410 controller.    5 years later the servoer board failed and had to be replaced and of course the P410 initialization reported that a raid option was not supported.

So we went into the archives and found a crate back in the warehouse next to the Ark of the Covenant and dusted off the printed copy of the email with the license key, shut the system down & rebooted got into the P410 array config --> view license (there was none) --> enter license key and got the very helpful message that "an error occured"

So tried entering the key in upper case, lower case, multiple times, had two different people enter it with a third being the wingman ... and all we got was "an error occured."

Eventually we had to release the system back to it's users and we're just doing without the Raid 6 at the moment, but I want to ask some questions:

1) Does the license key expire after some time?

2) Is there a diagnostic tool that can give us a bit more information that "an error occurred"?

DL180 G6 Smart Array P410i - 3TB drived fitted, ORCA shows as 801.6GB??

Hello all, new here,

This is my first time trying to configure a Raid array. This is my first time with an HP server.

I'm using 3x 3TB WD Red drives, and aim to have them as a single Raid 5 array without live spare. The drives are not formatted yet, straight out of the packet and into the caddies.

I entered the ROM configuration utility, but they are presented as being 801.6GB, not 3TB.

ORCA Version 8.30.02.00

The attached photo shows the issue.

Do I need to update the ROM firmware? If so, how? (I need an idiot's guide).

Many thanks, Scott.

Modifying DL380P Gen 8 to use SATA III in parallel with B420i SAS controller

$

I'm building out a re-purposed DL380P Gen 8 with Windows 10 Pro to use for audio production. For the system drive, I'm using 4x 300GB 10K SAS drives in RAID 10, so I wish to retain the SFF bays in SAS mode... but audio requires vast storage so I need to add a single 10TB SATA III drive. There IS a single SATA port on the motherboard, designated for the optical drive, but the optical SATA ports on this series of HP servers only run at SATA 1.5 speeds. This makes it hard to see any benefit of utilizing that interface, save for the sole reason of having access to the disk (not to mention there are no available SATA power connections). With no ports or available power, this seems impossible... however, I'm thinking I might have a solution but would like to ask the community for their thoughts: First, adding a secondary pci SAS/SATA controller to get around the port limitation (the SATA only models are very cheap and have small cache reserves, a good SAS card will still support true SATA III speeds AND offer decent cache amounts); for power, I want to purchase an SFF secondary cage power cable (HP 660709-001) cut the end off it, tease out which lines are 3.3v, 5v and 12v and install a SATA power port (also add a single atx power connector as well... you never know). I'm thinking I can modify the optical drive bay to house the HD directly under the optical drive as there seems to be plenty of space. Obviously not concerned about warranty issues here, but aside from that are there any reasons this might not work?
