How to choose right power core HPE DL serious for example DL380, 360 ...
Mostly I sellect NEW HPE ProLiant Servers offer Flex Slot Power Supplie

HPE 500W Flex Slot Platinum Hot Plug Power Supply Kit x 2

and it show warning message
" NEW HPE ProLiant Servers offer Flex Slot Power Supplies that come in multiple power ratings to allow you to pick the Right Size to fit your configuration. This provides you with the advantage of reducing and reclaiming lost power. By selecting the right sized power supply you will be providing facilities with a nameplate rating that is much closer to actual power your server uses. In order to select the right size power supply for your ProLiant Server it is 'highly recommended' that you use the 'HPE Power Advisor' located at ' https://paonline56.itcs.hpe.com/?Page=Index' to determine the right size power supply for your server needs.

I recently recieved 6 of the above listed servers. All of them appear to be running normally on standard workload and during stress tests.

But if i insert empty smart drive carriers (without hard drive in carrier) system shutting themselves down.

The foloofing error appear System critical. System health LED is flashing red.

If i insert HDD in smart carriers servers begins operates normaly.

Is this normal? I think it's really awkward.

I couldn't find out any similiar porblems on HPE forums or on Google.

Please tell me i'm not the only one with this problem :)

Adding 2nd LFF cage to HP ML350 gen9 (enabling 16 drives support)

Hi,

I have HP ML350 gen9 LFF with b140i and 8 LFF cage (765819-425).  I need to convert it to support 16 LFF drives. By my research i need these items to do that:

1. HP ML350 Gen9 8LFF Hot Plug Drive Cage Kit  726547-B21

2. HP Smart Array P840/4GB FBWC 12Gb 2-ports Int SAS Controller 726897-B21 (DOES IT COMES WITH 96W BATTERY and cables required to connect to backplanes??)

3.  2 pcs HPE ML350 GEN9 Smart Array Cable Kit 765650-B21   8xSAS to 2x miniSAS cables

is this purchase list correct? Or i should go with adding SAS expander way?

ML110 Gen9 High fans with SATA AHCI

Hi.

I recently purchased a HPE ML110 Gen9 4LFF and installed ESXi 6.5 on it. using the HPE custom image. I have two LFF disks. Rather than using the B140i software raid, I want to pass the two disks directly to ESXi.

When I set the mode to SATA AHCI in BIOS rather than B140i, the disks are present in ESXi, but the fans continue to spin at a higher rate, as the normally would during boot up. When I switched back to B140i in BIOS from,SATA AHCI and the fans are silent again, but I cannot see the disks in ESXi. Assuming I first need to set them up in some type of RAID first.

My question is, is it possible to pass the disks directly to ESXi whilst keeping the fans speed down?

Thanks in advance.

Orange Health light on DL380 G3

All,

I have a problem with a DL380 G3, the problem is that the health light on the server is ornage, however I can see no failed or failing hardware on the server, all the PSU's are connected and I cannot see any internal components un-seated or damaged.

I am running Windows 2003 Standard Edition with SP1 though this will not make a difference, I thought I would let you know.

I have checked the IML log and there are no failed entiries in the log also I have run Insight Diagnostics to find no errors with the system.

So far the server has not crashed and the system has not performed a BSOD

This is a critical server and I have a feeling that booting the box will remove the LED but cannot just perform a rebbot "just in case" any Ideas???

Hi All.

I have a Problem with  the install of Windows 2016 (Vers. 1709). I boot from Intelligent Provisioning, install looks fine.

But when the Driver installation is done, the Server hung up in HPE Boot Logo.

When i try to install Windows Server 2016 (Vers. 1803 and 1735 Preview Build) there is no Problem.

Server is HP Proliand DL380 Gen9 and Drivers, ILO, etc. are up to date and latest.

Thanks in advance

Hi Doesn’t HPE DL380 Gen 9 have support for ADK 1709 (WinPE 10.1.16299) we have upgrade our SCCM to 1710 and ADK 1709 and we can’t install HPE DL380 Gen 9 anymore, HPE DL380 G8 works fine

Have anybody tried this yet?

We can see WinPE loads but it results in black screen when the WinPE load bars ends

Expanding Raid10 [DL380 G5 / Smart Array P400, FW 7.22 / ESX 5.5]

$

I have running a P400 with 4x 150GB SAS in Raid10 and want replace the disks with 300GB SAS. My fist question: Is there any chance to to this by just replacing the Disks step-by-step and waiting for rebuild?

- replace Disk1 150GB by 300GB, start, wait for rebuild done
...
- replace Disk4 150GB by 300GB, start, wait for rebuild done
-> Now, can the P400 detect the new size and let me expand from 300GB to 600GB ?

Currently there is also another Raid1 with 2x1TB which could be removed temporary, so another way could be:

- remove 1TB Raid1
- add 4x300GB Disks and configure a new Raid10
- clone all data (dd?)
- remove the old Raid10 (4x150GB) and put back the 1TB Raid1
-> Is the controller now re-detecting the 1TB raid or do I need some manual configuration?

And then the last big question: If all the data is cloned to the new Raid10 does anyone know if there are some special steps needed to boot up the ESX5.5 installed on that Raid10? Can the volume easly be extended to the new size?

No option for Expand Array after adding disk.

I have an issue trying to add disk space to my Array configured on a P410i raid controller. When I add the disk, the ACU see it, but when I right click the array/disk, I only have options to "Add Spare", or "New Array". Nothing for "Expanding the Array". I slapped the disk in a couple other HP Proliant DL G7 servers with same/simular setups, and I DO have the option to expand. Firmware is same, and all have Cache battery backups. But believe something is not set correctly in the controller configuration. I have tried comparing the configs line by line, but having issues determining what needs setup/enabled. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fake hard disk frames for Gen8-Gen10?

$

We did some experimenting lately... I was wondering if a non-HPE SSD drive would work in a brandnew Gen10 server (DL380). I assembled the drive with the frame that was supplied, plugged it into the server and got a message from SSA: "Not a genuine HP disk drive, the front panel lights will not operate....blah blah" and a yellow warning sign.

I noticed that the supplied frames did not look exactly the same as the original ones and I changed one frame with another I knew was working. And looka there... the problem was gone!
I also noticed that one frame had one of those infamous golden chinese Q.C. (Quality Control) stickers... Do the chinese manufacture fake disk frames?

Has someone else seen disk frames that do not work? I wonder where they come from... Anyone been on the Shenzhen market lately?

Dear all, please help:

Steps I did to install a supported Linux by HPE:

  • Connect the Ethernet cable between the network connector on the server and a network jack.
  • Press the Power On button.
  • During server POST, press F10 for Intelligent Provisioning.
  • Complete the initial Preferences of Intelligent Provisioning.
  • At the 1 Start screen, click Configure and Install.
  • Image of Linux on DVD inserted. Instelligent Provisioning starts installation of SO. Finish the installation, follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Reboot… System doesn’t start the SO on the hard disk.

Thanks for your help!
