DL 160 Not Recognizing Drives

I bought 2 New HP DL 160 Servers Mfg Part# 830574-S01,  a set of 4qty 2TB SATA Hot Plug Drives and another set of 8qty 1TB Hot Plug Drives.  One of the servers configured seamlessly with 4qty 2TB Drives but the other would not recognize the 1TB Drives. I swapped one set of 4 drives with another set and yet the problem persists.

The array controller shows that there are no physical drives attached when all the drive banks actually have a drive in each bank.  The LED on the drives is solid Amber.  I performed the following steps as advised by HP but didn't make any progress:

Press F9 during the startup process to access the UEFI System Utilities.
In the Systems Configuration menu, select BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > System Options > SATA Controller Options > Embedded SATA Configuration > Enable HP Dynamic Smart Array RAID support.
Press F10 to save the configuration.
Reboot the server.

I am particularly concerned about the following from the RAID Diagnostic Report:
Dynamic Smart Array B140i in slot 0b : Internal Drive Cage at Port 2I : Box 1 : Sense Bus Parameters

I have run out of options short of entirely replacing Server.  Please advise if there is/are things that I missed and can do to get the server working immediately.

I have uploaded both the Diagnostic report and pictures to for references.

Remove the P400 SmartArray to read/recover individual SAS disks of a RAID 5 array?

$

I happen to personally own an ML370 G5, and recently moved internationally. Upon unpacking, the machine reports that 2 hard drives of the RAID 5 array it had (of 8 SAS 72GB disks) have failed -- and so it shuts down both the LSi UltraSCSI 320   and the P400 SmartArray during boot. And as luck would have it, the box which contains the backup is one of two boxes (out of several hundred) which (so far) ;have been lost in the move!!

In this scenario, I think the first thing to do is to check if the "failed" drives really have failed; and even if they have, to see if ordinary recovery tools can restore them at least temporarily. I also think I should verify that the problem isn't with the slots that the drives occupied.

The problem is that the drives are 72-GB SAS drives (attached to an Lsi UltraSCSI 320 Series 2000 card), so I can't just pop the drives into some free slot on another machine at home and run testdisk or spinwrite -- I have no other SAS controller at home.  My questions is this: Is it possible for me to physically remove the P400 SmartArray card from the ML370, so that when I boot the thing, the Lsi SAS card will just see 8 individual SCSI disks? So that in effect I can use the SCSI/SAS controller of the RAID as a simple SCIS/SAS controller card, for the purpose applying recovery tools to the two failed disks, and (should that not work) of imaging the good disks in the failed array for running RAID recovery tools?

If I can, i would love to somehow back up the RAID configuration before I do this, so that I can restore it afterwards. When I press F8 at boot time, ORCA tells me that there is no logical drive at all, so (as far as i can tell), it doesn't let me save anything. And as the whole array is shut-down at boot time because of the failed disks, ACU doesn't even see a controller. (FWIW, iLO does report a failed RAID array, but i see no way to back up it's configuration there either).

I realize that I could spend some money and get an SAS controller card to hook the disks up, but 1. It seems very wasteful to me to spend such money, if I could just use the SCSI card I have. I just don't want to mess things up further. And I do want to exercise the slots that the failed drives came from, so I'd like in any case to be able to use the SCSI card and cage without the RAID.

If I do need to buy a standalone SAS controller to examine the disks, if anyone could recommend a suitable (cheap) one, I'd be very grateful. I doubt I'll need the card for any other purpose than this.

Lastly, it's probably obvious already from this post that I have no experience with RAID recovery: is my suggested first-thing-to-try hopelessly naive? If there were no RAID in the equation, I would say that it's very surprising to me that TWO disks would fail as a result of the machine they were sitting in being decently packed up and shipped overseas. So again, if this weren't RAID, I'd think that some combination of recovery tools might well restore at least ONE of the two disks.  And of course, if that happened, then the RAID itself would take care of covering for the last disk. But I'm assume that whatever the RAID does, the disks themselves are just disks with some reasonably normal filesystem on them -- which would make reasonably normal recovery have a reasonably normal chance of success. If I'm being unreasonably naive ( as a result of an UNGODLY amount of ignorance about RAID), thank you for letting me know that I shouldn't waste my time trying.

But even in that case, I'd STILL rather use the SCSI interface I have and not buy a new one just to read the individual disks (the ones that are still good, that is).

Thanks,

scott

Second RAID card, now where do I put the battery??

I have a DL360 G7 with a P410i/512MB FBWC "card" servicing the 8 internal SAS drives.   I just added a P411/512MB FBWC card to service a d2600 enclosure.  All is great except... where do I "mount" the two "batteries" now?   The fan shroud has a good spot on top, but what I thought was a spot under it, conflicts with the internal cards SAS cables.  Help??

Proliant DL380 SAS Expander issues

Good afternoon,

We have an existing Proliant DL380 (p/n 768344-425) which I believe has an H240ar Smart HBA. The existing drives are configured with a mirrored 300Gb array, and 6x900Gb drives in a Raid 5 array. Drives are SAS 10k.

We've added an additional drive bay with mirrored 900Gb drives and an Hp 12Gb Dl380 Gen9 Sas Expander Card (p/n 727250-B21), and installed the cables as per instructions;

Bay 2 port 1 -> port 5

Bay 2 port 2 -> port 6

Bay 3 port 1 -> port 7

Bay 3 port 2 - port 8

P240ar port 1 -> port 1

P240ar port 2 -> port 2

When we booted the array found all 10 drives, however the original 300Gb mirrored pair, and the 6x900Gb Raid 5 arrays were both in a degraded state with four drives reporting as failed and so we lost both arrays. We put the original cables back, removing the new bay and despite there still be an issue we managed to repair the arrays and get the server back the way it was.

My question is, do we need to do something to maintain the integrity of the existing arrays or, is there no other option than a rebuild?

Thank you in advance.

Intelligent provisioning update

Hello!

i have a DL160 server and i am trying to install ESXi6.5.

RAID1 is configured but when i try to install ESXI it seems that the RAID configuration is not recognized and it shows two disks.

so we are trying to upfate the intelligent provisioning version from 2.5 to 2.7.

After booting from the ISO image made using RUFUS it shows the error "error flashing the NVRAM Please try again"

what could be causing the problem ? and would updating the intelligent provisioning version resolve the RAID configuration issue when installing ESXI 6.5 ?

thank you in advance

Onboard RAID controller Driver

I have an old server. It's a HP ML150 G5 E5405 / P/N 450163-001

I am looking for a RAID driver for Server 2008 for the onboard Raid controller. I have searched in Drivers and can't find what I need. There isn't a dedicated Raid card in this one, just the onboard controller. This is for the part of windows install when you select which disk to install Windows on.

TIA!

How to clear ASR (HeAsrCondition SNMP)

$

I have issue with some HPE proliant gen8/9 servers. We are monitoring servers health via ilo snmp (Agentless Management). Some servers after unexpected reboot/reset stays in cpqHeAsrCondition degraded (3) condition. It indicates if the previous reset was caused by the ASR timer. An asrReset(3) condition may be changed with a
viewed-asrReset(4) set operation.

IT should be possible to clear cpqHeAsrCondition  via cpqHeAsrReset 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.5.7.0.4 OID. OID value has to be set to 4, it means viewed-asrResetI'm not able to set 10.2.55.173 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.5.7.4 to value 4.

snmpset -v 2c -c write-string 10.2.55.173 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.5.7.4 i 4
Error in packet.
Reason: noAccess
Failed object: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.232.6.2.5.7.4

I don't find any info how to get or set SNMP write string.

Can anyone please advise on how to get or set SNMP write string. Maybe there is another option how to clear cpqHeAsrCondition error?

Clearing ASR in IML does not help.

Hello I contact you for a technical opinion on the product described below, in practice and for a week that I have problems with the Network of the server, I am attaching images to better describe the problem, in practice on this server on which Windows is installed server 2012 R2, ce a Microsoft Hyper-V, on which there are installed 2 virtual machines, one of the two is accessible from outside in RDS, up to 10 days ago everything worked quietly, while now there are especially when we back up the virtual machine on a dedicated external server, the occurrence of the problem, in the sense that the virtual machine is always on and fully functional but is no longer accessible from the outside and impossible to reach it even locally, so I am forced through ILO to reset the above machine , strange thing that the voice degraded sometimes goes to understand the whole Network sector, but other times the problem exists only as from pictures attached, sure in a kind polite advice, thank you and I offer best regards.

Antonio Gelormini.

P.S. I have done various research on the net but inherent this problem described I did not find any discussion about it, so I decided to write to you, because it is becoming very critical being the server in production.

How Install Windows Server 2012 R2 STD from iLO (Step by Step)

$

I have struggled for weeks to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on my (new) HPE Proliant ML30 server;   - Already try for legacy and it is very complicated for the drivers of the hard disk.

- I already tried with USB with an ISO image of Evaluation and when finishing the installation it marks me error of licensing.

- I already try USB with a Commercial ISO image and it marks me the error: "The win.xml file was not generated correctly"

- Already try with Evaluation CD / DVD and mark licensing error.

- I already tried with commercial CD / DVD and it marks me the same error: "The win.xml file was not generated correctly".

I have not found more ISO files on the internet that are not EVALUATION more than that.

I have read that it is very easy to install from iLO and I already have my iLO trial license but I have never used it and I know absolutely nothing about how to do it by this method, I would appreciate it if someone could give me a step-by-step MANUAL of how to install through iLO (from the configuration and installation of iLO to the installation of Windows).   I hope you can help me I have weeks in this and I already feel a little desperate.

* I have my Windows Server 2012 R2 STD Original license (* Extra data)

DL380 G7 SAS Expansion Card not recognized

Hi,

I have installed a second drive cage and SAS Expansion card to DL380 G7.

At post the SAS Expansion card is not known to the system, I have the P410i still in use and am hoping that I won't need to disable the embedded Array Card.

I'm however still waiting for the cage backplane power cable, so there is no power at the moment to the backplan for the second drive cage.

Would this be the reason why the SAS Expansion card is no seen by the system?  Should'nt the Controller be seen in anycase?

We have an HP Proliant DL360 G7 . we are looking to disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1  only leaving TLs 1.2 enabled.

Upgraded to the latest firmware and placed ILO in FIPS mode,  but this did not enable TLS 1.2 , it only enabled TLS 1.1 exclusively.

Any suggesstions or input on how to configure the DL360 G7 to only use TLS 1.2 will be appreciated. Thank you.
