ML150 G6 memory upgrade
ML350 G8 S120i + new RAID controller
Hi,
Got an ML350e Gen8 (470065-691) with integrated B120i (Zero memory), and a default drive cage of 4 disks, all of em used right now (2 RAID1) plus the DVD drive also connected.
We would like to upgrade the storage limits as we are going out of disk and are looking in a way to upgrade it.
We only need the posibility to add more disks (maybe add another RAID1 to move legacy documents which may be accesed not so often), since B120i is limited to 6 disks (less one as DVD connected) I think we are forced to buy a new Controller.
We are looking into the P222 as it is one of the supported for this server and connect its miniSAS connector to a new drive cage (of another 4 disks bays). But my doubt is if we do this can both controller coexists? Can both controllers work simultaneosly so i can connect a total of 8 disks? if it is possible i will move existing RAIDS to the new controller with best performance and put new drives in the old one for legacy files.
Another doubt about drive cage, the server came with one 4xdisk cage, (there should be space for 2 more, numbers 5 and 6 in the cage are locked and have not connector in the back but some documentation from HP shows that there are cages for 6 disks (maybe for higher model of controllers which can run more than 4 disks).
Can I get some advice on which are my options? We dont want to spend a lot of money, if the Controller is required it will be ok, if there is an alternative will be glad to hear it.
Thanks you,
Hard DIsk upgrade on ML370G5
HP Proliant ML370G5 with P400 controller
Used to have 8 72GB drives in a Raid 1 + 0 or 10 configuration
Total drive space available was 273GB's
Two mirror groups 1-4 and 5-8
C: drive was 48GB and D: was 224GB
Run out of space on C: drive. Even removed page file
Replaced all 72GB drives with 146GB drives in same Raid configuration
Storage space did not go up. Drive container size remained the same
How do I take advantage of the increased drive space?
Do I have to reformat the drives, change the partition size and restore from back up the system?
Need specific steps to follow as this is a mission critical server that HAS to run.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
ML570 G2 smart array 5300 firmware needed?!?!?!
Hello everyone!
I'm in desperate need of help. My boss wants me to get an ancient ML570 G2 up and running. I have prepared the machine as wanted with Windows Server 2003 SP2 32bits.
The problem is that in ACU I get the message that the smart array 5300 needs to be updated. I have looked everywhere and I still had no success in finding the needed firmware. I got the most recent HP firmware ISO and the one from that model page (Version 8.00 from 11 Feb 2008). I also tried all the cpxxxx.exe recommended for that firmware but I get the message that is not compatible with that OS (Do I need to downgrade to 2003 without SP2?)
I'm really in need of some help as I am running out of options here.
I atached the print screen I get.
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry if my english is not perfect.
Best compliments

Win Server 2012 ProLiant ML350 G4P
Has anyone been able to get Server 2012 R2 to install on this server? I'm upgrading from Server 2008 R2 but the upgrade crashes while loading the files. The compatibility checker mentioned resolving driver related issues with the SCSI driver and LSI adapter, but after they are resolved it begins the installation and then crashes while loading files. The crash wipes out Server 2008 R2 and I have to re-install the OS. Any help would be helpful. Thanks.
dl360 g6 ultrium 4 tape problem
I have a dl360 g6 with windows 2008 server installed. It has a pair have emulex a8002a hba's which lead into a storage works san. One of the devices on the san is a ultrium 4 tape drive inside a msl 4048 tape library. We use hp data protector for backups. I recently installed proliant service pack 9.1 on the server and can no longer do backups. The exact verbage of the error I get when I try to perform any operation on the tape is ...
Cannot write to device ([1450] Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service
... backups, format, etc all throw the same error. The library appears to functioning correctly as I can see it pulling the tapes from the correct slots and inserting it into the drive. I've backrev'ed the driver for the ultrium but still get the same error. I haven't reverted the emulexes yet but I'm don't have a whole lot a confidence that it will do any good either.
lt&t tape tests are a bit inconclusive. The tests fail but when you hit the analysis drop down it doesn't really say on exactly what.
DL360p / SA420i : Drives not showing 'configured' light
Hi,
We have a new DL380p with a SA420i RAID controller.
Any disks placed in the first 4 bays do not light their 'configured' light - the 3 stacked disks showing they are configured on the array controller.
Moving the same disks to the second bay ( the second 4 drive bays ) causes the lights to come on as expected. We're seeing this on 300GB and 600GB 10K SAS drives, so it's not a batch problem.
We've run SUM and ensured we're all up to date on the firmware, drivers etc.
An HP engineer has changed the system board and the drivebay/enclosure.
Short of DOAing the server does anyone have any ideas? I'm not convinced that DOAing the server will get us far as the engineer swapped the system board, drive enclosures and cables which seems to be pretty much the whole server.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks
Darren
HP DL 120 One long beep
I am trying to upgrade a server that was working perfectly fine yesterday.
The server is HP DL 120 G7.
The upgrades I was planning to do was:
Upgrade ram & Install P410 array card.
I put the new kit in and went to boot it up (first time for a few weeks) and all I got was one long beep. No output on the display and no other beeps.
I firstly removed all the hardware thinging it was something to do with that.
Then I tried just one stick of ram
Then I took everything out. (Drive caddy etc)
& Still the same thing.
I can see some flashing LED on on the system board (see attached.) What are these called as I cant find any information about what they mean to point me in the direction of what has failed.
IMG: End two light constantly on when full beep. (it does other variations before it gets to that)
The ones in blue one does flash oarange but it happens quickly so I cant get a picture.
If someone could point me to the information regarding the led combinations and what they represent.

DL380e G8 - fan noise and inlet temperature
Hello,
My company has recently purchased a DL380e G8 server and we are having a few issues with it. Firstly, the fan noise seems to be abnormally loud. We're already running 3x DL380 G7 servers and the 380 is louder than all of them combined. This is while sitting idle in Server 2008 R2 or with ESXi (HP version) running with just 1 VM (the Vsphere VCenter Appliance).
There are 6 fans. The first one is constantly around 25%, the second one is around 35% and the last 4 are all the same around 45%.
I've also noticed that upon boot, the 'inlet temperature' display is always between 10c and 13c. The server room has an ambient temp of about 21c.
I've updated all the firmware/drivers and the problem persists. I've also placed a service call to HP and they replaced the motherboard but the issues persist.
Can anyone with the same hardware let me know if your inlet temperature is also incorrect? If so, then at least it seems like a bug that may be fixed at a later date. If other people's servers are showing correct temperatures, then I'm guessing something is wrong with my server. The fan noise alone is enough to drive me insane.
bad disk sub-system
Hi,
We have a DL 380 G5 server running MS Exchange 2010. I have been informed by Microsoft that the exchange database is corrupt as a result of "bad disk sub-system"
How can I check and confirm this?
Thanks.
Tool to set DL Bios Asset Tag from OS (without reboot)?
Is there a tool available to set the asset tag field on Dl series without having to do so through a restart and BIOS config? I have over 200 DLs running in multiple locations that I would like to enter unique asset tags on. Sure is a real pain if I have to do so with a reboot and console access on each one. Help please!
Thanks

LFF Hot Plug Drive Cage Kit on SFF ML350p
Hello everybody!
My client needs 600gb 15k hdd LFF (659485-B21) on ML350p (736958-421) that reads only SFF HDD with his controller.
I want offer thia solution: Kit cage unità Hot Plug 6 LFF (Large Form Factor) 5U HP (659485-B21) + a separate HP Smart Array P420/1GB FBWC 6Gb 2-ports Int SAS Controller (631670-B21) so i think ML350 server will be able to read LFF HDD.
Is it possible? or Mixing of SFF and LFF drive cages is not allowed anyway??
Many thanks.

ML350p Gen8 Should this have ILO Essentials on it?
Greetings,
I purchased an ML350P Gen 8 server last April (2013). I am using it as a VM host (ESXi 5.1). When rebooting via ILO, I get a message that says something to the effect of: The server is up and running, to monitor server after it has been started, you must upgrade your ILO version" I don't have the exact message, hopefully someone will recognize this.
Anyway, I am spec-ing out 2 new servers, and I came across several posts in various forums that mention that ILO essentials comes with all Gen8 servers.
Is this new and my machine doesn't qualify or did miss something during my install?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
I can not use Remote console utility in iLO homepage

NC360T PCIe DP driver issue
Hello,
We just inserted an HP NC360T PCIe Gigabit Server Adapter (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_105E&REV_06) into our ProLiant ML350 G6 running Windows 2008 R2 and we cannot get the NICs to work (device not working properly because it can't load the drivers (code31)). We tried previous versions and multiple reboots, and we even tried the drivers from the website of Intel... all without success.
When we insert a network cable into 1 of the 2 ports, the lights on the switch light up, but on the second port it doesn't.
Now I am wondering if the card is DOA or if the card isn't supported in this combination (ML350 G6 and Windows 2008 R2). But when we look in the "option parts" for ML350 G6, the card is listed.
Or is this just a driver issue and can someone tell me what driver I should use?
Thanks a lot!
RILOE II Remote Console doesn't work with Java 7.
I have a ML370 G3 with a RILOE II board running Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition. I used to remotely manage it from an HP rugged notebook nr3610 (well, it's really an Itronix GoBook III [a "260+"] with an HP bios and HP labels), running XP SP3 Pro. Yes, all pretty antique, but functioning quite well.
Until Java 7 came along.
Suddenly, I cannot open a Remote Console anymore, I get the error: "remcons.class not found" (and much more details in the java console, but this is the essence). On the net I could not find references to this problem, not on Google, not at Java, not here. There's some rather similar problems, but nothing exactly the same and/or useful to me.
In the end I saw no other option than to reinstall Java 6 (6.45, to be exact), next to version 7. As Java allows for multiple installations, I thought I could just activate version 6 when running the remote desktop, and version 7 when doing other stuff that I need recent, updated Java for. This did not work, I had to completely remove the Java 7 installation before I could get the Remote Console and the Virtual Devices back to work.
Has anyone encountered this problem, and/or found a solution to it? Is there no remcons.class in Java 7, or does it reside at a place unknown to RILOE II? Or...?
Many thanks,
Rob
