The power supply of my server is not working properly, and i want to replace it.
The actual power supply is a HP 576931-001(300W), is it possible to replace with a thermaltake (TR2 380W)?, there is any compatibility problem doing this ?

DL385 G2 not seeing 4 hard disks
We have an HP DL385 G2 with an HP Smartarray P400 slot 1 and 8 hard drives (7 are in use). We did a server reboot yesterday and then 4 hard stopped working (partition not visible to ESXi and red LEDs on the drives). When we do F8 during boot to get into the RAID configuration we see that 4 disks are showing up as "missing" as if that "Port 1I" on the controller is bad. The server boots fine to ESXi loaded onto logical drive #1.
Please advise on how to recover my logical drive #2?
I reseated the 4 "missing" drives but that didn't help. Can I replace the P400 controller or something?

DL380 G6 random reboots
Hi,
I have a DL380 G6 that reboots at random.
ILO log shows only:
Server power restored
Server power removed
Server reset
2x CPU Xeon E5520 2.27Ghz
7 x HP SAS 300GB 6G DP Hot-Plug 10K
2 x HP 750 Watt PSU
6GB RAM DDR3
Smart Array P410i
At the moment it's nothing installed on the disks and no arrays configured.
ILO, ROM and controller at latest FW.
Tried
-disabling ASR
-setting power management to maximum
-removing memory sticks, one by one
-both PSUs separately
-without any disks
Have also tried clearing CMOS/NVRAM using system system maintenance switch. When I do this and start it up again, it stays alive longer (up to 2 hours perhaps). Otherwise, the reboots happen between 10 seconds to 10 minutes.
I have read some old threads on this and there seems to be 2 solutions. Either replacement of the motherboard (but I have no warranty left) or this: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01955503
The latter seems promising, but then I saw that I had 451277-002, which HP states are "NOT affected by this issue".
I'm pretty desperate here now. With the server like this and with no warranty, I might as well use it as paperweight.
Is there anything else I could try?
Is it worth trying to apply System Programmable Logic Device-update anyway? If so, how can it be done? Do I need to edit a bootable ISO and put the file into it?
HP DL380 G7 - Power button state Yellow, won't turn ON the server! It works after 2-3 hours later!

ProLiant ML110 G7 - All usb ports are not working
Hi
I have just installed a ProLiant ML110 G7 Server running Xenserver and all is well until I try to attach a USB device. Then I found all USB ports are not working and I can not even using the Keyboard to access the Bios as ML110 only has usb port for Keyboard?
After some investigation on the FAQs it was suggested to enable the USB interface. But I could not keyboard at all!!
Has anyone a suggestion for this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Steve
SCSI Lead
can anyone help please?
I need a short SCSI lead to connect HP Smart Array 6402 to MSA30. Both ends are the same size really small and slim.

DL380e RAID controller
Hello, everyone!
I have HP DL380e with B320i RAID controller. The problem is that I can't intall Debian 7 on it - there are no drivers for RAID!
Please, can you recommend me another controller to replace a B320i? It would be good if driver will be in stock debian 7 kernel.
Thanks a lot!
Checking the logs for the SmartArray P410i controller
Hello --
We are running a RAID 5 array using a P410i controller on a Proliant DL380 G7 server running the Windows 2008R2 operating system and SQL Server 2008 database. Several days ago, an unexpected shutdown occurred, which resulted in the mapped drives losing their assigned drive letters. That has since been corrected.
I am trying to determine the cause of the shutdown. I have already checked the Windows Event Viewer, and aside from some instances where there were problems connecting to an HP LeftHand diskarray via the iSCSI Initiator, there were no references to an event that would cause the shutdown.
My next step is checking the log files of the array controller. I have already done a diagnostics test via the array configuration utility, and there were no errors reported. I also checked the Integrated Management Log Viewer, and there was nothing apparent listed there.
What are step(s) should I take to determine what caused the shutdown, and drive letter scrambling to occur?
Thanks.

iLo4 Microserver Gen 8 alertmail
In the past I have used iLo alertmail in environments where a mail server is present. We're deploying several microservers in remote locations where there are no mail servers. Does anyone have experience setting up alertmail in an environment were mail servers do not exist? Most of my research points to setting up a relay e-mail but I have not been successful with that either. Also, if anyone knows of a better way to have the microserver send alerts from remote locations I would be interested in that as well. Thanks
Drive Upgrade in hotplug RAID1
Good day,
We have a DL360 G7 that was unfortunately conigured with small 7200K rotation drives. In order to continue using it we need to upgrade the drives both in rotation speed and size. The four current drives are organized into two RAID1 arrays.
I believe we have three upgrade choices for this, but I wanted to confirm that to be the case.
Option one would be to create an artificial drive failure by shutting down, pulling a drive and bringing it back up. After recognizing the failure we could hot plug the new larger/faster drive and let the raid rebuild. Once the rebuild process completes we repeat with the second pair. Afterwards we could expand the arrays to use the capacity and we'd be done.
Option two is to make a backup image of the system, install and configure the new drives using the ROM utility, then restore the image onto the new drives.
Option three is to create a real drive failure by simply pulling on of the existing drives, then install the new one in its place and repeat for set 2. After rebuild repeat process for remaining drives.
I am curious about the relative merits of each method.. I am leaning towards Option two because it is the safest choice, but I wanted to get some feedback on several details.
First question: In all but option two we would have a RAID1 combining drives of different sizes/rotations/latency specs. Is such a RAID relaible and stable enough to run for a week (this is all off hours work) ??
Second question: How much risk is injected by using the much faster option 3 rather than option 1 ?
Obviously option 2 would generate a longer interruption than the others (due to the need to image out and back in the full contents of the system). It would however only mean one interruption rather than two. The main differences between one and three are downtime and risk from hot plugging drives.
Last question: since all of the equipmen is hot-plug capable how much risk is there to the old drives for yanking them and the new for plugging them (we intend to reuse the drives) ?
Thanks in advance for any help and guidance..
Bios Virtualization option?
A software provider ask me to disable virtualization from Server's (proliant ML350 G8), Bios... i can't find where to do that, it actually exists an option to do it?
Thanks in advance

ProLiant ML350 G4P not seeing disc drives during Server 2008 Installation
The server sees all 6 drives in the BIOS. The BIOS is only allowing me to create 2 arrays using a total of 4 disk drives. However, after creating an array and verifying it is set up, the windows installer says no disks detected.
Any help would be much appreciated. Especially if you can assist with the BIOS issue as well.
FYI, I ran the SmartCD 8.5 with no luck and tried deleting the NVRAM to reset all the settings to default but that did not work either.
Thanks in advance.
ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 is noisy
Hi,
I bought 3 ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 server for a customer, and now I'm searching for a solution to get rid of the noise...
Thank you there's hope. Unfortunatelly this ROM isn't for my server. Do I have to wait unil HP put this tho their download section?

How much is my server worth?
HP ProLiant ML350 G4p (382196-001) Server (Rack Mountable)
2 Xeon 3.2 GHz Processors
4 GB of memory
3 300GB SCSSI Hard Drives
Above are the main specs of my server (It's 6 years old or so). Below, is a link to the same kind of server with only 1 processor and 1 GB of memory. The second one has more specifications. I would appreciate it if someone could help me figure out how much it is worth. Thanks in advance.

Proliant Microserver G7 N54L problem no display
Hi,
I just bought a HP micro server.
I first started it, the server booted normally (the HP logo then server was looking for device to boot from).
I turned off the server and opened it to add RAM.
Since then (from the seconf boot) there is no display from server (even after removing the additional RAM).
When I start the server the led is blue but there is no display !
I tried to clear the cmos, but nothing changed.
Can you please tell me what should I do to solve this problem ?
Thanks
Array not rebuilding = 776 (Ready for Recovery) is queued for rebuilding.
On of our customers had a drive failure and the failed drive was replaced but the array doesn't seem to be rebuilding. It has this status for a couple of weeks and although we are taking backups they can't afford any unexpected downtime. I've checked and re-checked the ADU report and can't figure out why the rebuilding doesn't take place unless this is happening because the server is not idle although this is quite weird as we replaced other drives and it never happend. I've also noticed HP sent us a different drive model compared to the ones already existent. Hardware is a DL380 G8, controller B320i enbedded and 1xraid1 + 1xraid5 arrays, the raid5 array is the problematic one. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Please check ADU report and see if you can conclude anything else than me.
ProLiant DL360 G6 Processor Addition
Hello,
I will soon be adding another processor to our ProLiant DL360 G6 server. I have 2 questions before I take the server down. Due to our enviroment I only have a short window of time to do this upgrade. I have seen on some tutorials that adding a second processor to some ProLiant servers requires an additional PPM or VRM (module) while others do not. Can anybody clarify whether or not I will need a PPM or VRM module for this upgrade? I currently have an Intel Xeon E5520 2.27GHz proc in the server, and will be adding another. Second question: Will I need to add more RAM on the DIMM slots next to the additional processor that I will be adding, or does it share DIMM slots with the other proc?
Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide.

Undocumented LED on ML350 G5 Motherboard turns red when server fails
We have an ML350 G5 that running ESXi which in turn hosts a virtual Server 2008 Terminal Server. Every now and then, (and there's no pattern to it or regularity at all) we'll get an alert that the VM is offline.
Go to site and look at the box and the second LED down on the front panel is flashing red. Look inside and the only LED thats on, is red, but isn't any of the LEDs identified in the manual or on the digram inside the side panel of the case.
The LED in question is right on the very left hand side of the motherboard between the back of the VGA port and the Serial Port.
I called HP and emailed the contact a picture, the same one attached here, and we were advised to buy a new motherboard. $800 and 3 hours of installation time later and last night exactly the same thing happened.
Does anyone have any ideas what this LED might indicate?
I've attached a picture and although it looks like two LEDs its only one, the other is a reflection in the back of the serial port housing.
