migrate raid 1 to 2x raid 0

I want to get more space by splitting RAID1 into independent RAID0. There is no risk to safety, because data is duplicated on 2 servers. Ideally I would like to keep contents of 1st disk directly and have second unused, to create another volume. Last resort is to delete RAID1, make new RAID0 and let it rebuild overtime. Servers are DL380G9 with P440ar

I have a Proliant DL 380 G5, that I have had for years in my home/office.  I have neglected upgrading the firmware and wanted to do that.

My question is can I upgrade from version 4.12 to 7.24  or do I need to upgrade each incremental version between these two?  I appreciate your responses and assistance.

Thank you so very much.

Hello Guys,

I've got a problem with array 1+0 on ML110 G6. There are two disk 500GB configured as raid 1+0.

It works fine for a year or more. Now my client ask me to move this server to another location so I've carry it by a car. In the new office the server doesn't boot at all. The array status says recovering but nothing happends.

Thanks for advice.

How does one use PowerShell to set the AlertMail "Enable SMTP Secure Connection (SSL/TLS)" option on a Gen10.  I dont see any parameter to set this with the "Set-HPEiLOAlertMailSetting" cmdlet in the latest PowerShell module for iLO.

Thanks

ML110 G10 with E208i-p SR (804394-B21) controller and SATA NHP drives

I've a simple question. If I plug in a  ML110 Gen10 server a E208i-p SR controller, can I connect the 4 NHP SATA drives (801882-B21  - 1 TB) already installed?

I've found on the ML110 Gen10 QuickSpecs doc the note "NHP SATA is limited to S100i controller", I found this misleading because on the Smart Array Datasheet is written the Storage protocol 6G SATA is fully supported.

Information about the reading cache of the controllers

Good Morning!

Some time ago I have some doubts about reading the cache memory of the HPE controllers.Currently I have this configuration: P440 4GB, RAID 8X6TB.The operating system is managed by the integrated controller b140.

I have a lot of reading traffic, and I've been reading that allocating read cache to the controller, slows down access to the disks. The biggest reading traffic I have on the server is P2P.

I wanted to know if there is any documentation about it, or someone can help me really understand the reading memory, if the beneficial for when there is a large reading traffic, or change, is irrelevant.

Thank you!

Proliant DL380P FlexibleLOM 554FLR-SFP+ Wiring / Cabling to Standard Ethernet / RJ45 - How to ?

$

Hello,

I realize this is a very basic question, but doing some searching about HP FlexibleLOM NICs on google I could not find any clear easy answers to this question.

What are the options for wiring a FlexibleLOM 554FLR-SFP+ to a standard Ethernet RJ45 Switch?   Clearly I am unfamiliar with the SFP connectors, and many of the HP documents / QuickSpecs make it seem like it is compatable with standard RJ45 wiring, which I highly doubt based on the connector design not appearing compatable with a RJ45 connector.

So anyway, I just wanted to ask this basic question and ask what adapter/connector/cable is needed to connect the SFP LOM connector to a RJ45 Ethernet switch?   Also if anyone could refrence a document with a list of supported connection methods with required parts it would be  a great bonus.

Thanks so much!

End of Life & End of Support

Hi,

I'm Luca.

I have this question: we have a ProLiant DL380 gen6.

I'd like to understand the different between end of life and end of support..

I read that, for my server, end of life was in 2016 but end of support? Where do I find this information?

Many thanks

Have a nice weekend

Patching HPE VMware custom images

$

Dear all,

we are currently running a VMware cluster based on 3x ProLiant DL380Gen8 and 1x DL380 Gen9 that have been installed with the HPE VMware ESXi 6.5 custom images for Pre-Gen9 and Gen9-Plus.

The current ESXi 6.5 build of these images is 8294253. The most recent build from VMware for ESXi 6.5 is 9298722.

Can anyone tell me about what is the correct way to patch those hosts to the most recent build of ESXi? Can I just use vSphere Update Manager and use the patches provided by the VMware VUM repository?

I'm not quite sure with this, because the document SPP HPE Custom Image vibsdepot mapping for Pre-Gen9 states that "Software update for servers running VMware vSphere 6.5 U2 must be done using the HPE Custom Image or vibsdepot":

forum-1.PNG

http://vibsdepot.hpe.com/mapping/SPP-HPE_Custom-Image-vibsdepot-mapping-pre-Gen9.pdf

I have also read the document Deploying and updating VMware vSphere on HPE ProLiant servers:

 https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA4-7994ENW.pdf

Based on the document I have added the HPE VIB repository to Update Manager. This raises another question: After creating a basline with HPE ESXi 6.5 content, Update Manager shows the following for my freshly installed ESXi 6.5 hosts:

forum-2.PNG

So it seems that the ESXi Management Bundle verison 2.6.2-2 is installed - which is from January 2017. Can this be correct since the custom image that was used for installation of ESXi 6.5 was released May 2018? I assume that a custom image relased in May 2018 should contain a more recent Management Bundle.

/edit: Regarding the second part: It indeed seems the case that the current HP ESXi 6.5 custom image from May 2018 does not include the most recent ESXi Management and Utilities Bundle. I have manually compared the versions between our ProLiant Gen9 and ProLiant Gen8 and the Gen9 server (that was installed with the Gen9+ custom image) already includes the latest Management Bundle. This is also reflected by vSphere Update Manager when scanning for updates.

Thanks
Michael

Hi,

We a few ProLiant DL385p Gen 8 servers which I noticed have 4 power inputs, 2 or which have a blue border and 2 with black border around the input. My question is, what is the difference between the blue and black power inputs?

I have a DL385 Gen 10 box with HPE Smart Array P816i-a Controller - 3 logical drives already carved out and I want Array A - Logical Drive 1 to be the OS/boot - i've gone through the OS install a couple of different tmes both with Intelligent Provisioning and also a 1 time boot menu to a USB external drive with Windows Server 2016 install disk

Each scenario seems to complete then the box just boox to the black HPE screen - any suggestions are appreciated.

Proliant ML10 Gen random power down

Im hoping someone can help with a problem I have.

I currently have a HP ML10 Gen 9 which has been fine for months, but for the last couple of weeks has become incredibly problematic and unreliable.

It will just power off without any warning.  It may run for a couple of days.  It may also only run for a couple of hours.  Coming to it has the flashing orange light on the front.     I can just power it back on, but it doesnt help with the fact that its become unstable

I have run  hardware tests on it. The ram and the processor have all tested perfectly fine.  There are no errors in the BIOS.  Only errors in the windows eventlogs are the dirty shutdowns.   Everything is completely clean.

Usually I am good with hardware, but this one has left me completely stumped and I cannot even begin to think where the issue is.

Im am starting to think there is some kind of dry joint on the mother board which is causing the crash.

Has anyone had any issues with these servers just randomly powering off.

Server is now out of warranty.
