DL360 Gen10 - Windows Server 2016 Std Installation

Hello Community,

I've got an HPE OEM ProLiant DL360 Gen10 8SFF Configure-to-order Server.
It came with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (16-core) Standard FIO Not Pre-installed English SW on the order.

The server came with the "Kit DVD WS16 (16 core) Std FIO en".

There was no RAID and no partitioning/formating on the server.
This is the instructions I can find under the documentation link printed on the DVD Kit:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c05343991

Step 5 states:
1. Power up the server. 2. You will be prompted to select the preferred language under Regional Settings Page if your operating system includes multi-language interfaces. Select the appropriate language and click Continue.
This is definetly not working (how should if there is nothing on the drives)

I can't boot from the DVD.
So I tried it with Intelligent Provisioning - Express OS install. (I created RAID 1 before)
I used the following settings and get the failure with invalid Media.
How does HPE think I should install WS16 with their media???
Is there a tool I need to boot from to create the partitions and "install helper" to kickstart the installation?
I know it from Gen9 that there was already a RAID setup and it was bootable to actually start the installation like described in the HPE documentation (but the documentation is from 2016, so nothing current for Gen10)
Can someone help?

how do I use Smart Storage Administrator?

Hey everyone,

I'm using up a ProLiant ML350 Gen10 server as virtual host to 2 other servers and normally I use the Array Configuration Utility which I acces remotely through the System Management Homepage. However, System Configuration Utility isn't supported by generation 10. So I went online and looked for a solution or workaround and I found out that people use the Smart Storage Administrator these days, so I downloaded and installed it, but now I'd like to actually use it, and I have no idea how I'm supposed to do that, for the SMH isn't supported anymore. The virtual host is running Hyper-V core installation, so I only have a command line to work with.

If you know the answer to this, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance,

Lenard

Microserver Gen 8: POST Error 261 - Server Platform Services Firmware requires update

Hi,

i get this POST Error on every boot up. It says:

POST Error 261 - Server Platform Services Firmware requires update. Action: Please run the Server Platform Services Firmware Flash Component to update this firmware.

Unfortunately I was unable to find the Firmware. I did update ILO4, System ROM and Intelligent Provisioning but still get this error. Besides everything seems to work fine, I would like to get rid of this error message. I found posts on different forums where people have a SPS Firmware 2.2.0.31.2. Where can I find that? Running the latest SPP doesn't help.

Here are my current firmware versions:

Server 2019 support?

$

Was trying out a new HP ML350 G10 with a P408i raid card.  Installed the OS (directly, obviously the intelligent provisioning doesn't support the OS yet) and used the most recent SPP to get all the drivers loaded.

No bangs in device manager, all things registered fine.  Even got the matrox driver loaded and the right resolution.

However, the one thing I can't get to go is the array configuration utility, or smart storage administrator, whatever way you prefer to refer to it.  It installs fine, but when ran, sees no raid card.  I can create and manage arrays fine at the BIOS level, what I had to do to use the rest of my RAID 10 space for a new drive.

But I really like to see the status of RAID arrays on production servers.  So I don't want to deploy without this functionality.  But to me it seems really pointless to install 2016 server now on a brand new server, considering how far we are into live support, and what support times are left.  I don't see much value to go with a 3+ year old OS for something I'm deploying next month.

Anyone know if there are any workarounds?  Since so far everything else seems fine with 2019 server, I'm half tempted to leave it as is and just wait for an update to the SPP or something.  But while this will simply be a hyper-V host, and so I'm not to worried about the OS itself since I can pull the VHDX files to another if I need, I don't want to do that if it's going to be TOO long before HP gets current.

I'm actually a bit disappointed that after the beta time, and a month and a half since GA, that this is even still a failure.  Even support was unable to figure out a way around the issue...

Thanks for any information.

Meaning of this HP BL460c Gen9 Specification?

Hello All,

My client order us a HP BL460c Gen9 server with this specification and we could not understand what they meant. Can anyone explain to us:

1. HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560M Adapters

2. 10Gb 536FLB FlexFabric Adapter 2 Ports per controller

3. 2 x 10GbE, FlexFabric 10 GB, FlexFabric 10/20 GB

What is the difference among these three specs? Are all of them integrated in the BL460 Gen9 servers by default or are they optional and should be bought separately? If you can please try to provide us the part number for each component.

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

With our first DL380 gen10, we indentifed a network load without any Proc activities. That generates latency on Network Storage.

We're using Giga network switch, Hirschmann. I've added a screen shot of network adapter we used.

If somebody knows why and if there some update or configuration to do ?

Thanks for your help

DL380 G7 Memory in a DL360e Gen8?

$

Hi Everyone

I have 2 old DL380 G7's and 2 (slightly less) old DL360e Gen8's but these have no memory in them

I just want to know if the memory in my DL380 G7's will work in the DL360e Gen8's.

I have 18 x8GB sticks currently in my DL380 G7's giving me a total of 144GB of usable memory. I am aware the dl360e Gen8's only support a maximum of 12 sticks of RAM with 2 CPU's installed so I have memory to spare if I swap it over.

I've read this thread HERE and I know about the official stance around Smart Memory support etc, but putting that aside, will the memory in the G7's

1. Physical Fit for DL360e Gen8's
2. Will the DL360e Gen8's boot up with it?

I'm well aware of all the bad ideas of doing this, but practically, will it work? The post in the link above seemed to imply it will, but I'm asking again just to be sure.

Cheers

Andy

Hello together,

can the two servers mentioned in the subject be run under Windows Server 2019? I can't find any appropriate drivers on the website ... but maybe Server 2019 contains usable drivers by default?

DL360 GEN 10 - DIMM RESEAT - UNEXPECTED REBOOT

$

I have three DL360 G10 servers that were operating beautifully for 6 months.  Then one server reported it needed a DIMM reseat.  So I shut down the server, reseated the DIMMS and powered it back on.   This is a VMware host and once it came back online I moved VMs over to it.  Within 30 minutes of the reboot the server unexpectedly shutdown again.

These servers have redundant power supplies that are on separate circuits.  No other hardware suffered any kind of power outage just this server.  Event logs simply said it was turned off.   No additional info could be found.

This has me feeling less than comfortable with this particular server.   Thoughts?

Want to update HDD firmware

Good afternoon,

We have a DL360 Gen9. It had two 300GB SAS drives and one of them is a EG0300FBDBR. It is still on firmware HPD6. I updated everything with SPP 2018.09.0 and the RAID controller says that it need to be updated to at least HPD7. Now the update to HPDA is allready out since february of 2014.

When I run SPP 2018.09.0 it does see the other disc, but not this specific one. I also try'd an older SPP, but with the same result. (both from a Windows machine on remote and booting from the SPP SUM ISO directly).

It's a machine with VMware 6.5.0 and I downloaded CP029333 and did run that .vmexe. It came back with the message:

Online ROM Flash Component for VMware ESXi - EG0300FBDBR, EG0450FBDBT and EG0600FBDBU Drives (HPDA), searching...
============ Summary ============
Smart Component Finished
Exit Status: 3
Update not attempted. All selected devices are either up-to-date or have newer versions installed.

However no update does see the drive, I see it in iLO (under Information > System Information > Storage) and in Smart Storage.

Is there something that I missing here?

DL380P Gen8 will not boot to anything but C: drive.

I have 2 DL380P Gen8 servers that need to be re-installed.  When I try to boot into Intelligent Provisioning it just skips it and boots to the C: drive with no error message.  It also will not boot to USB or virtual CD/DVD.

Here is what I have tried already;

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just know that I do not have physical access to these servers and can only, for the time being, access them remotely.

Hard Disk Firmware cannot get updated

Hi

We have a Proliant DL380 G7 with RAID controller Smart Array P410i (Embedded Slot) with Windows Server 2012, we also have 4 Physical Hard Disk (RAID 1+0).

they are from 3  different models:

EG0300FBLSE
DG0300FAMWN
EG0300FBVFL

We Install HP "Smart Storage Administrator" program to monitor our RAID hard disk, It give us warning:

A firmware update is recommended for this physical drive. Model: HP EG0300FBLSE

2 of 4 physical Hard Disks are HP EG0300FBLSE , so I receive 2 of above message.
So I download this firmware:
Online ROM Flash Component for Windows - EG0300FBLSE
This is firmware version HPD5. I also have tried the latest version HPD8.
These updater programs runs fine with success message and then instruct us to reboot windows, but after rebooting, HDD firmware do not changed, and I firmware version is still HPD2.
This is the part of cpqsetup.log, related to running this updater:

The installation procedure was completed successfully.

A reboot is required to finish the installation completely.

Additional Information:
As part of the reboot process, you must power cycle the server and any external array storage devices.

I also tried DVD "Service Pack for ProLiant", hopping it use direct firmware update and don`t differ firmware upgrade for next boot, but this DVD still updates using differed mode and I wasn`t succeed to update with this DVD either.
I have good experience with hardware and firmware updating, but these HDD`s firmware refuses to get updated.

What happens after rebooting the server? Which updating mechanism is used during windows booting? what should I do to update these HDD`s firmware?

Thankyou in advanced.

The download for the Post-Production Service Pack for ProLiant 8.1 9-2018 is timing out after 99% downloaded and is not completing, causing a generic network error on the download and an unusable file.  The full 6GB bundle download and custom bundle download have the same issue.  I've also tried multiple browsers and over different ISPs.  Full and custom bundle downloads for the Current-Production Service Pack for ProLiant 9-2018 does not have this download problem.

HP DL380 Gen 9 Temperature Sensors

$

Hi everyone,

A colleague has recently built 2 of these servers with Server 2016 and they both are registering 72 degrees celcius for sensor 22 (PCI 2). 4 other similar servers in our fleet (albeit running Server 2012) do not have high temperature readings for their PCI slots. The "problem" servers are all running the latest Proliant Service Pack and appear to be running very similar versions of the HP agents to the "known good" 2012 servers.

The question is - is it normal for the temperature of a "HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 562SFP+ Adapter" to be 72 degrees celcius when the card is not under any load? The servers that are OK have a slightly different card = "HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 530SFP+ Adapter" and they report temperatures of under 40 degrees for all PCI slots.

Cheers
