My questions are

1. What i did breake?

ilo 4 health degraded - mostlikely embedded Flash/SD-Card died.

Hi all,

when setting up new one of my Microserver Gen8 cube, I noticed the IP (intelligent provisioning) stopped loading at 52%. I tried serveral times, but as still stopping at 52%, I decided to upgrade IP from V1.60 to V1.63 via upgrade DVD.  The upgrade went well (no errors), but since rebooting the server, the ilO health status is degraded and reports a problem with the embedded Flash/SD-Card. I tried serveral workarounds like formatting the NAND via XML-Script, via built-in feature of the iLO-firmware 2.61, power down the server after an before formatting the NAND  and also to re-install IP - but all without success. So my conclusion is, that the NAND died :-(

My questions are: Even there is no warranty anmyore available, any chance to get a new or refurbished systemboard for the server (as a privat person)? If yes, how much are the costs being expected?

A new Microserver Gen10 is unfortunaltey no option as iLO is mandatory for my environment.

Thank you very much in advance for any help and/or response.

Regards

Good day. The problem of this nature. I can not install the Win server 2008x64 OS on dl160 gen 5. Integrating drivers into the OS image does not help. Accordingly, I can not install the OS either from the disk or from the flash drive.

HP Proliant DL380 G5 Stuck on windows boot while installation process

Hi All,

We have a HP DL380 G5 Server which was running Windows Server 2008 acting as Domain and file server. The server has been running fine since we bought it brand new several years ago until one morning i found it stuck on windows loading boot screen. I had tried repairing many times thinking it was a disk failure or the raid controller battery failure. The was a disk which failed and the raid battery also failed.

i didn't bother reinstalling the windows to the good disk drives but it still hang at windows loading boot screen.

Please help to resolve the issue. i can't figure out the issue until now.

Adding smart array card to DL360e G8

I've been running a G1610 for some years and (aside from my first one that died for no obvious reason and it was cheaper to replace than to purchase support!) it's been great, but I think my needs have outgrown it - So I've got my hands on a G8 DL360e, 1U, LFF.

I'm somewhat new to the world of servers so please bear with me while I ask what I assume are some basic questions with pretty obvious answers.

The server comes with the B120i controller, but after some conversations with people who know far more about this stuff, I've been given to believe that if I can upgrade to one of the smart array controllers (presumably a p420i) then I'll see a significant boost in performance.

I've tried to find out a bit more about all this, but there seems to be little information for the beginner, so given that I have 4 x 6TB SATA drives, and my aim is to keep this as low cost as possible, I'd like to know:

1) Will there genuinely be a noticeable increase in performance that would warrant the extra expenditure? (I accept this is relative, but some insight would be helpful)

2) Which card should I be looking for? I've read the 420i is the one, though I originally got hold of a very cheap 400i which physically won't fit in the server due to the position of the SAS ports.

3) I note that Mezzanine cards appear cheaper, but from what I can tell they won't fit in the DL360e - am I correct in this assumption?

4) Will I need to get an FBWC module separately, or can the card work without one?

5) Is it possible to build a RAID 10 array using the B120 controller, and then migrate to a p420i at a later date without losing data?

Thanks in advance for any help.

HP Proliant DL320e Gen8 Shuts Down

Hello everyone, since there was a big power outtage during a storm 3 weeks ago my server has been acting up in a strange way, it shuts down and the health led flashes red 4 times per second, but the power led remains amber.

After reading the manual i'm wondering if it has something to do with the PSU and if that's the case what would the PN be? This server in particular only seems to have one and non hot-swappable. If i turn it back on it will work but in a couple a days it will shut down again, and that makes it a useless server for me.

Could there be any other causes for this problem?

Hello.

Have random reboot (period 2-60 days) problem with 3 from 3 HP DL380 Gen7 servers in one datacenter. Have a server of other manufacturer near HP servers and it works stable.

All servers have 2 power supplies and in logs (ipitool sel list) i see only messages about power failure on one of supplies:

HP DL180 gen9 after iLo firmware update Logical Drive started transforming

$

Hi,

We have HP DL180 Gen9 server whith a Smart Array P840 in it.

There are in total 9 physical devices (1 is spare) each 6 Tb SATA 512e HDD and in total 3 logical drives. Logical Drive 1 is 100 gb. Logical Drive 2 is 100 gb and Logical Drive 3 is 30 TB. They have been configures as a Raid 6.

Last friday we ran the HPE SUM and updated almost everything that was out of date including the Smart Array P840. This device wasn't update since 2016. The version on it was 4.xx and now it's 6.60.

After updating all firmware/software etc the Logical Drive 3 started transforming and I do not know why. The Logical Drive has not been expanded or something like that.

At the moment the drive is very slow because the cache has been disabled. The transforming is now at 18,31% (after 5 days).

My question is:

- Why is this drive suddenly transforming?

- What will happen after it has been transformed?

- Am I required to transform?

- Can I cancel the transform (I don't think so)?

- Can I do something to increase the speed of this transformation?

This server is our main backup server and we have a lot of backups of tennants so we cannot disable this drive.

Thank you,

Engin

iLO Amplifier Pack - why 2 NICs?

$

Why does the iLO Amplifier Pack virtual machine have 2 NICs?  Is one used for communication with the iLO's and the other the web management interface an Admin would use to login to it with?  if so, which one is which?  When building the OVA, one is called "legacy" so that is kind of confusing.

Can both NICs be on the same subnet?

Do I need both?

Thanks

Hi!

ProLiant DL80 Gen9 server.
The iLo interface is unavailable: it responds only to icmp requests, via 80, 443, 22 ports connection refuses.
The cooling system works with increased performance relative to normal (when the server is operating normally with a working iLo).

Cold boot (with disconnecting powercords and ethernet) didn't help.
The problem occurs a second time: two weeks ago i solved it by installing Service Pack for ProLiant. I had to launch launch_sum.sh two times, because iLo didn't flash after fist launch. After flashing, iLo worked normally for several days.

Maybe, someone can give me an advice, how to diagnose and solve this problem?

Unable to access iLO 5 GUI

$

Hello,

I have two brand new DL380 Gen10 servers which I powered on for the first time today.  Unfortunately with both boxes, I was unable to access iLO via any web browser.  Firefox, Chrome and IE all report various security errors, which seemed to be related to SSL and mismatched cipher.

In IE I turned off TLS but was still not able to access.

I was able to access iLo via telnet and confirmed it is iLo 5 v1.3 (31 May 2018).

I ensured my anti-virus was off, firewall was off and anything else that I felt could be intereferring.  I have stripped all security from IE but I still cannot access the web interface on any browser.

This is the first time I have encountered this problem.  I have been using iLO 4 for several years on other servers and while I get the certificate error, I am able to ignore this and login.  Now with iLO 5 I am totally stumped.  I have logged a call with HP, but they have not been particularly helpful.  They suggest upgrade the firmware but have not been clear how this is achieved via CLI and I am not convinced it will resolve the problem.

Anyone any ideas??

Expanding logical drive using Raid 1

$

Hi,

Server 2008 r2
ProliantDL380 G6

We have 2 physical disks with 2 logical drives on them - each using separate RAID 1.

Logical Drive 1 - C: = OS

Logical Drive 2 - I: = Data

I would like to remove the I: drive from windows disk management as it is not used, then delete it using the HP Array Confguration Utility, leaving only Logical Drive 1 (C:).

Then I'd like to expand that Logical Drive, to create 1 large disk - RAID 1 across it.

This sounds a simple task to me, but can I do this without affecting anything?  I can not afford to wipe Logical Drive 1 - C: of any data.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We don't found the original documentation of the server, there is a way to check what the server originally come with?  I mean what OS come with or was shipped with.

Nvidia 1080Ti on a Gen10 server?

$

Through a bit of a mixup, I am in possession of a quantity of Nvidia 1080Ti GPUs that I need to install in servers. These cards are 111.15mm x 266.70mm in size and is dual-slot, same as a Nvidia Tesla P100 card. One major difference is that the 1080Ti has two power connectors on the top of the card while the P100 has a single connector on the end of the card. The other major difference is that HPE supports the P100 and does not support the 1080Ti.

Has anybody successfully installed the 1080Ti in a Gen10 server? My preference would put 2-3 cards in a DL380 but I'm open to other options. I know that I will not get HPE support on the cards, nor will they guarantee that the cards will work. If they physically fit and are similar to supported Nvidia cards then I may take my chances.

Disable LLDP

I have a large number of DL Prolient servers installed in our testing lab and am having issues trying to disable LLDP. Packets are sent every 30 seconds and disrupt certain testing.

I've tried using hbacmd in hopes of disabling LLDP but it seems that utility is geared more towards fiber channel cards than regular network cards.

Has anyone been able to disable LLDP packets on a Hewlett-Packard Company NC552SFP 2-port 10Gb Server Adapter (Emulex Corporation OneConnect 10Gb NIC (be3) (rev 01))?

Thanks in advance for any replies.
