ML30 Gen10. Question about storage option

$

For my home-office I have been using a Microserver G8 since years and now it is time to replace it.
Unfortunately the new Microserver Gen10 is not for me... no Intel CPU, no iLO... no way and then I am moving to a ML30 Gen10.

I am not going to use the embedded software RAID.

The tech specs say the max internel storage is 4 x  4TB non hot plug LFF SATA and 4 x 12 TB hot plug LFF SATA.

It is very very strange a year 2019 server can not accept HDD more than 4 TB...

Why this difference between hot plug and non hot plug? what is the story? Maybe it is a limitation from the software RAID I am not going to use?

DL380e fan speed questions

Hi all,

Noob here, have been in IT support for years but new to this level of server. Have a DL380e w/ P420, firmware 4.68, ~88°C, 4 NETAPP X412_HVIPC560A15 drives, all around 30-35°C. Fans will randomly spin up to crazy noisy speeds for 5-10 secs (anywhere from once an hour to just a couple time a day), then settles back down to quiet. Have poked around using iLO (seems I need a subscription), and Insights, but am not making much headway in determining what is causing the fan issue. Any pointers out there where to start to determine fan speeds & location of any thermal hot-spots? Server has been in place for about 6 months, issue started about two months ago, seemingly for no reason. Current instal has it loafing, CPU utilization is usually less than 5%.

Thanks

DL380 Gen10 with High Performance Heatsink + 2nd CPU kit with Standard Heatsink, will it work?

We have a ProLiant DL380 Gen10 875763-S01, we’re installing a DL380 Gen10 6126 Xeon-G Processor Kit Sku# 826862-B21. The Server comes with a high performance heat sink from the factory, the processor we’re installing does not have a high performance heat sink.  Would like to confirm if this is okay with the differences of the heat sinks before proceeding with installation. Can someone confirm these will function properly with the heat sink differences? Thank you

Any WMI for Smart Storage Cache Battery serial ?

I have a bunch of HP DL360 Gen9 servers where i need service because of Smart Storage Battery failure.

I have taken out most of the needed information for HPE support automatically, however i cannot seem to find the

Battery Serial number anywhere using WMI. I can offcourse make an automated process to open ILO page on each and ever server that logs in, go to the right page and copy out the serial number, however is that necessary ?

i have taken out all the result from all the WMI classes under the namespace root/hpq but i cannot find the serial number. I have also gone through all the WMI documents on HP sites that i can find. All there seems to be is the cachebattery /arraycontroller status information about the battery, but no other metadata about the battery like replacement part no and serial number or firmware version.

Can i get this out remotely by any other commands ?

/Hugin

Hello.

I have DL380 G5 server as one of host in Windows Failover cluster 2012R2.

When i make Live migration of 2016 Virtual machine in Hyper-V then mentioned server cannot hold it and even says "the virtual machine is not compatible with physical computer" . Other hosts in cluster are HP G7, G9, G9.

Could it be that HP DL380 G5 is not supported to work with Windows server 2016 virtual machine?

Please assist.

Max number of Raids of a 440ar controller with an HPE 12G SAS Expander Card

Hey, we have an 440ar controller 2 Raid Arrays. One with Raid 50 with 6 x disks (SAS) and another Raid 5 with 3 x disks. (SSD)

Ist it possible to add another 3x Disk in an additional Raid 5?
So future configuration would be:

RAID 50 (SAS)
RAID 5 (SSD)
RAID 5 (SSD)

I read something about, that the 440ar could handle 64 Raids, but only here in Forum. Would be cool to see some official infos from a Datasheet or somewhere....

ILO4 channel interface driver is installed, but not showing as installed

I have an older DL360p G8 which is misbehaving. Spontaneously resets every 1-2 weeks OR whenever we try to do any online firmware upgrades. I suspected the iLO Channel Inteface Driver which had previousl been uninstalled for other reasons. I tried to install the latest version, 3.31.0.0, but when I do it says that it is allready installed. If I install it anyway, it never shows up under installed software, and if I run SUM, it too shows it as not installed at all.

Thoughts?

Proliant ML110 Gen9 and Machine Learning

I'm trying to build a VM where I can learn and develop very basic machine learning apps. I'm reading that the ONLY Nvidia card that will work with the ML110 Gen9 is the NVIDIA Quadro M2000. A few questions:

1. Is the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 the next iteration of the M2000?

2. WIll the P2000 work in the Gen9?

3. Is the ML110 so restricted that only ONE GPU will work? I'm almost better off building my own server if that's the case. It would seem that as new GPUs are produced, they would be compatible. Sorta like CPUs. I can slap a newer CPU into the ML110 Gen 9 and it will work. Why don't GPUs work the same? Is it the M2000 or nothing with this particular server?

Thanks in advance.

NAND Failure unable to use IP

Hi All,

I have a ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 712317-371.

It's showing the following error currently "Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 NAND read failure: Media is in a WRITE-PROTECTED state" but prior to starting the troubleshooting steps below was showing embedded media manager errors.

I've tried:

And after 7 hours of troubleshooting, I've concluded the NAND is dead. So I can no longer use

  • the internal SD card slot it would seem (Device can no longer see it or boot from it)
  • Intelligent Provisioning

I can live without the SD card if only I could set up the device to see the SSD I've installed in the ODD bay via the SATA port. The AHCI controller can see it on startup but I can't install anything on it as it's not confgured. Is there a way to achive the following (which is normally done in IP?) via the CLI or a bootable linux USB drive?

DL-385 Gen 10 and NVMe

$

Afternoon,

We have a sister unit that has offered us a few DL-385 Gen10 Servers (SMB Base model (P something or other)). Great machines, great reviews, but we're mostly transitioned off of SAS to NVMe, and these things come with the 8 SFF SAS chassis. =(

So, what are the possibilities for re-configuration.?  From deep-diving HP documentation (what haven't I looked at!) NVMe is certainly an option, but I'll be danged if I can figure out whether or not this kind of conversion is even field possible.  As we all know, finding the part numbers(*) and Service Manuals that demonstrate cable routing and riser replacment is easy.  I've even got a building full of Elec. Engineers (some of who work on other HP servers).

So, the question I'm after is: has anyone done this or know of doing this?  We could even live with leaving the 8SFF Chassis in Bay 1, and populating the other bays. Of course we'd have to get 2nd Processor, but again is it even possible?

Apprecate any insight you can lend.

Dave
