Power Supply burn-out?

$

And now for something completely different, at least to me.

I have a DL380G7 with two 750W power supplies installed for several years.   Last year they installed a Powercom KIN-2200 UPS (detailed specs below).   They have had the occassional power fail before and the UPS worked and all was well.   Yesterday the power went off so that the battieries fully discharged and UPS stopped.

When power came back the server did not.  Console and router connected to the UPS came back ... everything came back except the server:  BOTH 750W power supplies were dead.  As door nails.  Both had to be replaced in order for the server to power up -- but once replaced the entire installation is fully operational.

Has anyone heard of a UPS causing a power supply to burn out?

Hi.
I'm searching for a Operating system Deployment software. HPE used to have Rapid deployment which was replaced by insight control server provisioning. There was also an appliance software which i can't remember the name of that replaced insight control server provisioning. Is there any software out there from HPE that deploy/provision operatingsystems to HPE servers mainly windows server.

Hello all,

I've encountered an error message at the HP Smart Array P420i Controller and its HPSA1 battery stating that the physical element is missing. I have the batttery capacitor, the errors are still showing. Does it mean that the controller is faulty and needs replacement ? The server is an HP Proliant DL380 Gen8.

Thank you,

DL 360 G8 with Intel x710 10gbps quad port (BSOD)

Dear community,

I have issue with two server DL360 g8.  The issue is when using X710 10gbps intel card we get BSOD.

We have installed this card in 4x servers, and 2 out of 4 its working as it should. Two servers are going in BSOD during boot.

We have tried changing OS (win server 2012,  2016 and 2019), all type of drivers where installed in Safe Mode, using latest BIOS, but with no luck, always BSOD  NMI_hardware_Failure.

I swapped intel X710 to some Dell server and HP Z820 workstation, and cards are ok.

I am out of options what to do. Do you have some suggestion about this issue.

regardless of outcome, thanks.

It is really a petty as the hppuc.cab as been resinged latelly to include proliantfw-2019.03 ...

Does HPE plan to re-issue it with a new signing certificat ?

Here below the certificat used.

Need HP Controller Driver with RHEL 7.5?

$

Hi, I have the E208p and E208i controllers in our DL380 G10 servers.  After installing RHEL 7.5, I can see the following kernel controller driver is installed, and I can see all of the attached Luns.

# rpm -qa | grep kmod
kmod-libs-20-21.el7.x86_64
kmod-hpsa-3.4.4_1_RH1-1.el7_0.x86_64
kmod-20-21.el7.x86_64

My first question is, do I still need to install the HP version of this driver?  When I attempt to do so, I get the following messages, but the driver looks to install, so not sure if this is just a cosmetic error. (I uninstalled it before rebooting just in case)

# rpm -Uvh kmod-smartpqi-1.1.4-133.rhel7u5.x86_64.rpm

I had an event with my ProLiant DL60 Gen9 servers that I cannot explain.  Hopefully someone can help explain.

I want to make Window2012R2 installation on my server using [F10] Smart Intelligence, when I noticed that Smart Intelligence [F10] Prompt Lost during POST. I'm trying to enter Setup bios [F9] to enable Smart Intelligence Allocation, but the settings for ENABLE / DISABLE disappear from the menu list. How do I make it?

How to FIx This Problem.

DL160 Gen9 adding 2 disk to RAID1

$

Hello Guys

I'd like to ask for an advice, as I didn't play much with HP servers. As per subject, I have DL160 Gen9 with 2x1TB disks set up as RAID1. There are 2 slots available, so want to add another 2x1TB disks to expand the space. I'm preparing step by step insturction, and I'd apprieciate your advice, how that should go. So far I have:

1. Full backup (obviously :))

2. Update HP firmware

3. Power Off the server and plug 2 new disks
2. Power On the server and go to F10 - Intelligent Provisioning
3. HP Smart Storage Administrator

Now, I'm guessing 2 new disks will appear in Unnasigned Drives, right? What would be the best practice, to add them? Is it possible to create RAID10 from this place? Or different approach is recommended?

Thank you in advance for all advices.

Regards

Stefan

Swapping both RAID1 Drivers Between Servers

I have two Proloant DL360 Gen9 servers with identical hardware configurations including SmartArray P440ar controllers and two hard drives in ea server as RAID1 arrays.  Both are production terminal servers in a farm, Windows Server 2016.  In the interest of determining if an issue is hardware or software, is it possible to physically swap the hard drives between the two servers, or will the array controllers lose their mind if different drives suddenly appear?  I've had experience from way back with RAID5 arrays on HP servers and it caused a problem.  TIA.

RAID 1 logical and physical drive failed

Hello All,

Over the weekend my HP Proliant DL380 G9 server with 2008 R2 OS was down with "No bootable devices were detected, Please attach a UEFI bootable device".

Server OS drive was configured as RAID 1 with one disk showing as status failed and also the logical drive status as failed.

Our enginner replaced the faulty disk with new one and then it just crashed with error "the boot configuration data on you PC is missing or contains errors". We had to rebuid/reinstall OS from scratch.

What did my engineer missed ?

Was he suppose to break the mirror before replacing the disk ? if so then how is it done.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

But by next they the server failed to communicate with the core switch directly. now there is a small 8 port switch is used for communication purpose. Is this impact is because of the Firmware update. Kindly clarify & solution.

DL380 Gen 10 VID drive

I have a DL380 Gen 10 which has a VID drive.  This was the first Gen 10's we bought when they first released.  Our other Gen 10's do not have this VID drive..  I need to get rid of this drive as it is causing problems with Ghost (this is a lab environment).

The BIOS is up to date (March 2019).  I've seen other threads about "downgrading" the BIOS; I'd rather not go that route.

I find it hard to believe that there is no other way to delete this nuisance drive.  Anybody else have this problem and solve it?

Thanks

-Samsung 970 EVO 2TB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7E2T0BW)
Or Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (SB-ROCKET-2TB)
Using pcie adapters:
-EZDIY-FAB PCI Express M.2 NGFF PCI-E SSD to PCIe 3.0 x4 Host Adapter Card with Heatsink Cooler- Support M.2 PCIe (NVMe or AHCI) Type 22110,2280, 2260, 2242

Video Output seems to be disabled on a newly acquired HPE DL380 G2

First of all, I want to preface this by saying that I am brand new in the enterprise server administration world; so, bear with me and my inexperience. Also, if this post is in the wrong place, can the moderators do me a favor and move it to where it belongs. If this is a duplicate, my apologies.

I recently acquired a proliant dl380 g2 6 bay server. The previous owner is a long time server engineer and admin who recently retired within the last few years.

The problem I seem to have is that everything is booting up well except I don't seem to have a Video output. It is posting normally (I can tell audibly that it is) and every indication tells me that it is responding normally. This leads me to believe that the video output is disabled on this machine.

The questions I have are:

- Is there any other problems I should be considering?

- If the video output is disabled, is there a way that I can reset the firmware on this unit to factory settings; so, I might be able to get a video output?

- Any other suggestions?

Also, there is only one expansion card plugged in on this unit and it is the scsi controller. There doesn't seem to be a second video adapter on this unit.

My background is more in building custom computers for specialized uses and the layout on the boards in this machine are a little beyond my knowledge level. My past servers have been repurposed PCs that I load ubuntu server onto.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi,
I´d like to know what happens with the performance of a Raid6 with HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 Controller when one disk fails. Raid is degraded, but what about the performance?

Thanks,
