Extend the Primary Partition on HP ProLiant DL 360 Gen 9 SAS
Hello all,
I want to extend our primary partion on our SAS server it's a raid 1 with 300GB SAS drives.
We tried to purchase addtional drives to combine them but our vendor said it wasn't feasible.
They suggested we buy 1 tb drive let it replicate and then move it to the primary postition and add another 1tb to mirror it back to.
IS the best way? Is there a walkthrough for this?
Thanks!

Where can I download the "HP USB Floppy Drive Key technologies technology brief"
Hello,
Does anybody know where I can get a copy of the "HP USB Floppy Drive Key technologies technology brief"?
This document has been referenced in another post on this community support forum. See, for example, this post: Booting from USB Key . One out of date link is http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01121465/c01121465.pdf . Another is http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01121465/c01121465.pdf
It seems that I'm looking for a PDF document whose filename is c01121465.pdf . Does anybody have a copy?
I am hoping that this document contains enough detail so I can write my own utility to bypass this nonsense.
Background context follows.
A MicroServer Gen8 won't boot a USB flash drive that has had a standard ISO 9660 image written to it. It needs to be written in a special, HPE-specific way using a special utility that is apparently available on the HPE website and in the SPP itself.
I need this to work so I can apply the SPP in the way I need. I also so that I can boot other ISO images.
This is a well known problem and I am now blocked.
I have checked all the usual things. I am using a USB2 port and a USB2 flash drive; I have set SATA AHCI mode in the BIOS; I have carefully adjusted the order of my boot devices, etc. The flash drives contain well formed ISO 9660 and carry standard headers. They boot fine on other machines.
I don't intend to install an optical drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!!
Kind regards,
Andrew

Proliant DL360 Gen 8 and HPE Dual 8GB microSD EM USB kit
Hi all,
i always received my brand new proliant with embedded HPE Dual 8GB microSD EM USB kit and never had problems.
Here i have an existing DL360 Gen 8, that i updated with HP SPP 1704 (sems the best for gen 8, can someone confirm ?) and when i install ESXi custom image (VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-9298722-HPE-preGen9-650.U2.9.6.8.3-Sep2018.iso) it told me that there is 0 MiB on the card.
I put it in my laptop and can only see 47Kb VFS LUN with some .TXT on it.
I read the user doc, they say it is ready to use, nothing about a way to initialize it.
Can somebody give me some hint about what i could do ?
Thanks
Configuring iLO on ProLiant DL360 Gen9
Hello Everyone!
My apologizes, as I’m still very new to networks and servers and such. I have two servers whose iLO I'm trying to get running, somewhat unsuccessfully. Here is all the information I’ve gathered so far.
Server 1 is plugged into port 33 of a cisco switch with an Ethernet cable that runs to the iLO port on the back of the server. Server 1 is working correctly. Server 2 is plugged into port 17 of a cisco switch with an Ethernet cable that runs to the iLO port on the back of the server. Server 2 is NOT working correctly.
The first thing I did was switch the ports the servers were plugged into (Server 1 got unplugged from port 33 and plugged into port 17 and Server 2 got unplugged from port 17 and plugged into port 33). I can reach server 1’s iLO from my internet browser whether it is plugged into port 17 or port 33 and I cannot reach server 2’s iLO from my internet browser no matter what port it’s plugged into. So I don’t think it’s a port issue.
The next thing I tried was switching the Ethernet cable of server 1 and server 2. Once again, Server 1 iLO is reachable no matter what cable is used and Server 2’s is not. So I don’t believe it is a cable issue.
All the lights on all the different ports are all green.
Server 1 had previously been configured so all I had to do was change the static IPv4 address and default gateway and we were good to go. Server 2 hadn't been configured so I set up the static IPv4 address and default gateway, turn off the IPv6 settings, made sure the iLO dedicated port box was checked.
I’m unsure where to look next on my server. Is there possibly a setting I haven't set up yet?
Thanks,
Jared Keyes

Changing HDD to SDD on a active Raid5 ML110Gen9
Hi Everyone!
I have an ML110Gen9 wih the onboard Dynamic Smart Array B140i Controller with just one raid 5 volume (4 Sata HDD).
My Idea is to change the drives to SDD, one by one like:
Change just 1 HDD (1TB) to SDD (1TB), wait for rebuild and then change another until I have the 4 drives changed.
Is this possible?
On this drives is Installed eSXI 6.5 and some VMs running.
Thanks!

How to check status LEDs from linux command line
I've got monitoring software that I want to extend support to HP for. I'm struggling with a sepcific task I'm hoping someone here can help with.
With other vendors, I can check the ID light, CSS light and general error lights using 'ipmi-oem'. Example with Fujitsu;
====
# ipmi-oem Fujitsu get-system-status
System Power : On
SEL Entries Available : Yes
Watchdog Active : Yes
Agent Connected : No
System in POST : No
Identify LED : Off
CSS LED : Off
Global Error LED : Off
Last POST Code (Port 80) : C0h
====
Looking in the man page for ipmi-oem, there is no entry for HP, which makes me think this information isn't available via this tool.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Note that I am trying to read the local host, not remote machines.

ProLiant servicepack 201903 - create bootable USB stick
Hi folks,
When updating my HP ProLiant servers, I use to download the servicepack ISO file to a Linux machine, then I run isohybrid on the ISO image, and finally copy the modified image to a USB stick.
To my chagrin, this did not work on the latest servicepack (201903).
Is there somebody who knows how to get around this problem?
I just hate to chase around for some double layer DVD media and burn the image. It's like trying to purchase a brand new 2010 model car.
Best regards,
Pete
Microserver Gen8 iLo4, Console freezes
Hello.
I have Microserver Gen8 with latest iLo 4 firmware 2.62, latest BIOS and all latest firmwares on other components.
I have a problem with iLo4 remote console. When I need it, I lauch it from .net or java - no difference, console freezes.
Here is the video, what I about (take a look on flash cursor, when I enter letters):
I started to make a video screen recording, and when I click "Start", there is no freezes:
As soon as I turn off the recording - the console freezes again.
This problem occurs from any PC, notebook. There is no difference between OS on endpoints.
But, on smartphones, with iLo4 app - there is no such freezes. All works fine.
Therefore, I updated all the firmware and installed the latest iLo4 2.62 firmware - no results.
What is it, i dont understand?

ML350p Gen8 - Home ESXi host - CPU upgrade
I'm Building a home VM server and was going to build one using the E5-2670 CPU. There is a great article on this
http://jptoto.jp/build-your-own-32-core-home-lab-server/
However, I started looking at old servers and found the ML350p Gen8 machine. I'm very familiar with HP tower and rack mount servers, they have alwas been very reliable. I can pick one up with 2@E5-2609, 32GB RAM no disk for $305. I intend to run the free version of ESXi 6.0 or 6.5 on this. Create VM's for testing things at home. I am a storage engineer and there are a number of simulators out their for NetApp, 3PAR, etc.
My Questions are:
1) Upgrade to E5-2670 CPU, from my research I may have to use ones from HP servers, is this true?
2) Add disk, the unit does support SATA disks, but I cannot find out if it is 6GB/s or 3GB/s
3) Version of VMware. Do I have to use the HP version or can I use the verison from vmWare that is free for 2 CPU systems?
Any and all help is appreciated with this. If you have done this I would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
MT-Geek

HP DL180 G5 and NC522SFP+ - No luck
Hi, first post so forgive me if I'm doing anything wrong in the posting process. I've been researching all day long but no luck. Fact is I installed a brand new NC522 SFP+ card in a DL180 G5 server but it doesn't boot. It reaches the menu with the options F7 - Boot menu, F10 - Settings, F12 PXE and the only option I can choose is F10, both other options (as well as waiting) take me to a freeze state with the legend: "Checking nvram.. Update OK!" and that's all.
Things I've done:
- Reset CMOS /NVRam (pressing switch 2 in the ssytem board)
- Change the NC522 from a PCi slot to another slot
- Took the card away (and it boots normally)
- Replace the card with another NC522 (**bleep**, I bought two to have a spare one!)
- double checked compatibility, and should be ok as stated here: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01720419#N1004B
- also the normal stuff: praised, lit candles, etc.
Any help would be really appreciated, I need to get this server up and running as soon as I can.
Thanks a lot.
