Drives do not display in SSA on DL360 G9

We had a Cache battery failure on a DL360 G9 that was running Windows 2008 R2.  After replacing the battery, the controller does not see the drives or the array that was configured.  The controller is a P440ar.  I flashed it's firmware to  5.04 with the 2017.04.00 Service pack, but still no drives (they are SSD's) show as available or allocated.

BIOS Firmware is: P89 2.0
ILO Firmware is 2.50

Any help would be appreciated!

Issues preboot/Updating Firmware

Hello Everyone!

So, I was recently given an old HP Proliant DL380 Gen 7 server and was pretty pumped to start using it for testing purposes. However, when I turned it on it took 17 minutes to start POSTing. That's 17 minutes with an all black monitor just waiting for it to start. That wasn't going to do, so the first thing I tried was wiping the drives, but to no avail. The next thing I was going to try was updating the firmware using SPP-2019.09.0, the date on the BIOS was from 2011 so I figured it could use it. However, when I try to run the update I get this screen in response: IMG_0227.jpg

(Sorry it's sideways, it's not like that on my computer, I'm not sure why it did that.)

Any idea what it means and how I should fix it?

Thanks,

Jared Keyes

Hi,

i've been facing this issue after powering off the server, when i plugged the power cord back no power on the board no Leds at all  the power supply fans are working but no led, so i have tried to fix the issue,

i used the minimum configuration to power the server on

i found something when i remove the power cable that connects the power backplane to the system board, the power supply led works and when i put the board power back to the board the server works fine!

when i remove the power cord the same issue happens!

is there something wrong with the system board or power backplane?

any suggestion

thank you

HP Proliant ML310e Gen8 V2. Early System Initialisation.

HI,

First post here. My background was technical (once). but not for a umber of years.

Have been given an old HP Proliant ML310e Gen8 V2 server. Upon startup it goes through the Early System Optimisation process. Manages to get to 100% then goes blank, before repeating the process again.

So far i';ve tried and failed in the following actions to try and some kind of progress;

1. Set SW6 to "On" and boot and then "Off" and boot. (removed all power between boots)

2. removed/replaced the CMOS battery

3.  Tried to boot from a CD (Ubuntu and Windows).

4. Tried to boot from USB.

5. Checked and re-seated DIMMS (all gen HP ECC).

6. iLO access (Doesnt have any sticker/toe tag for credentials). iLO version is 1.32 - so vulnerable to exploit to recover credentials - but cant get passed the Curl A(+29) command. BIOS is P78 - but showing a date of 2013.

So, i'm not sure what else there is left to try. And i'm steruggling from a technical PoV on what to try next, or simply strip the box down for spare parts.

I would be very grateful for advice or just a sterr on what to do next.

Thanks.

ML150 G6 Processor upgrade and voltage problem

Ok, for starters I am no expert and nor will I ever claim to be, more like at home level hobbyist...  I took 2 years of the Aries Computer Certification class back in high school in 99-00 so I have a good basic understanding of what does what and how to build and repair machines but here we are...  So take that into consideration lol.  Now to the meat and taters; I recently bought a ProLiant ML150 G6 server from a local computer store that refurbs business class machines (laptop & desktops).   (Win 10 pre-installed)  Came with the usual 2.0Ghz E5504 and a few gb of ram with 2x300gb SAS drives set up in raid to show only 1 drive with 300gb capacity.  Being the tinkerer that I am, an immediate upgrade was in order; so I ordered 2xE5530 2.4 Quads to give it a little kick in the pants lol.  Anyways I changed the original out, installed the 2nd and put on an aftermarket cooler on the 2nd processor because that was the easiest thing to get ahold of at the time. (and yes it seats and is pulled down properly)  . Evenly split the ram and moved some from the 1st processor over to the 2nd and fired it up.  Starts to boot, runs for maybe 30 seconds just fine then just turns off, like you pulled the plug.   Red voltage light is blinking and that's it, no warning no beeping nothing, just instant death.  Pulled the 2nd processor and moved all the ram back to original position and it starts and runs just fine,  Thought maybe the 480 amp wasn't giving it enough juice so I pulled a 650 out of one of my other machines and installed it, same outcome.  Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated as I am about to pull my hair out lol.

DL360 G7 410 Smart Array with PCIe SSD Fails to Boot

$

Hello. We have a DL360 G7 4-bay 2.5" 1U server where we are using qty-4 SSDs in the 4 bays, however we wanted to install a Marvell PCIe SSD card to run Windows 2019 Server OS. The drivers for the Marvell PCIe SSD card are properly configured in the W2019 OS, and with the DL360 G7 BIOS set to boot to "Other Storage Card" [as I recall] the DL360 boots to the PCIe Windows Server fine - BUT ONLY when the onboard 410 Smart Array holds no drives in a Smart Array configuration.

Once the 410 Smart Array is configured with drives, even when the BIOS is set [Controller Boot Option] to point to the Marvell PCIe SSD card as a priority, the launch of Windows fails. The last thing you see on the screen is [my paraphrase] "Attempting to boot from C:" - then the cursor hangs. Removing the Smart Array drives and the PCIe SSD boots successfully.

How do I set the system to boot to the PCIe card when Smart Array drives are installed? Again, the BIOS is set to boot to the PCIe card first, yet this hangs when Smart Array drives are present.

Any help or advice to solve this problem is appreciated.

Node keeps crashing every 10-15+ days

Hello,

Recently we have purchased failover cluster with two nodes.

2x HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 8SFF
1x HPE MSA 2052 SAS Dual Controller SFF Storage
Network between nodes and storage
2x Aruba 2930F 8G PoE+ 2SFP+ Switch

Every 10-15+ days Node01 restarts itself without me knowing why.
All virtual machines that were currently on that node were not transfered to Node02, they just shutdown.

Node02 works perfectly, no errors, all VM-s located on Note02 are without error.

Node01 - iLO for that period:

Now this is from Event Log from that period:

This is from Failover Cluster Event Log from that period:

Now for this last image I took screenshot only of one error, but here is each error for each VM that was running on Node01 during that time:

Cannot access Smart Array Controller during boot-up

Server: Proliant ML310e Gen8.

Smart Array Contoller (B120i) is set to be used in boot options.  When i choose F5 during boot-up, the screen states "F5 has been selected..." and "...system will boot into Smart Array Contoller" but never does.  It continues to boot host OS.  Note: When I tap F5 when prompted, the screen flashes and the entire screen's resolution changes (lower-rez) but displays almost the same info.  The difference is it displays HP ACHI SATA Controller.  I'm certain the Smart Array has been selected.

Anyone have any idea what/why this issue is happening?

Thx

Onboard HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 366i Adapter not recognized in DL360e Gen8

The onboard 4-port 1 Gbps network adapter on one of my DL360e Gen8 (661189-B21) is not being recognized (fully) by iLO or RBSU or VMware ESXi 6.0 or 6.5.

In iLO (2.61 ) I see:DL360e_Gen8_iLO.png

Adapter 2 - NIC

Location Embedded Firmware N/A Status

 Unknown
Unknown Ports MAC Address 2c:59:e5:39:bd:5c 2c:59:e5:39:bd:5d 2c:59:e5:39:bd:5f

Note that only four MAC addresses appear. in RBSU I see something similar where only three of the four NICs appear.

DL360e_Gen8_RBSU_3.pngDL360e_Gen8_RBSU_1.pngDL360e_Gen8_RBSU_2.png

Any magic tricks to get this working or is un-fixable? I'm not going to spend money on another NIC/NICs for hardware this old. So it's either get it working or get rid of it.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

HP Proliant SE316M1 won't boot at all!

I have a Proliant SE316M1 that all of the sudden won't turn on.

After a lot of taking off parts I'm now trying to figure out what I need to replace instead of trying to find a magical solution to make it boot.

  1. No hardware changes before the reported problem

  2. iLO won't show any errors in IML because the server won't boot at all

  3. When the power cables are plugged the PSU fans will spin

  4. The amber light in the power button does turn on

  5. When the power button is pressed (AND ONLY IN THAT MOMENT) the red health led turns on and starts blinking

  6. No other fan starts spinning after pressing the power button

  7. No errors show up in IML because the server won't boot at all

What I have tried:

  1. Removed both PSU's and started trying using one of the other; none of them make the server turn on but both of them make the respective fan spin when the power cable is plugged

  2. I removed all RAM sticks leaving only 1 RAM stick per CPU

  3. I removed CPU #2 and respective RAM stick and tried only with CPU #1

  4. I swapped CPU #1 with #2 to make sure it was not a CPU problem

  5. I removed the RAID card

  6. I removed all HDD's

RIGHT NOW THE SERVER ONLY HAS 1 CPU, 1 PSU, 1 RAM STICK (I'VE TRIED VARIOUS JUST TO MAKE SURE), NO RAID CARD AND NO HDD'S.

Bellow are links to some videos that show the behavior after pressing the power button:

https://youtu.be/QY2J8_9KR1s

https://youtu.be/CtHdT81Rqv8

At the moment I have NO IDEA what is wrong with this thing and HOW I can diagnose what part I need to find to make it work. I can't find any similar problem online or any kind of documentation that can point me in some direction.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for reading!

DDR4-2400 CAS-17-17-17 for E5-2600v3

Hi,

I have DL160 Gen9 with 2 x E5-2620 v3 cpu's  and 2 x HP 16GB (1 x 16GB) Dual Rank x4 DDR4-2133 CAS-15-15-15 Registered Memory Kit  (726719-B21)

I want to add extra memory to this server, but HP memory for e5 v3 cpu  (i.e. DDR4-2133 CAS-15) is twice as expensive then HP memory for e5 v4 cpu.

Will memory for E5-2600 v4 series work with this CPU?

for example: HP 8GB (1x8GB) Single Rank x8 DDR4-2400 CAS-17-17-17 Registered Memory Kit (805347-B21)

I guess DDR4-2400 should not have problems running on 2133 rate, but worried about CAS latency.

Or maybe BIOS won't let to run this memory at all?

thanks!
