Expand array on DL360 P408i-a

Hello all,

As the current array gets low on available disk space I want to expand the current array by adding 2 drives.

Server                  HPE ProLiant DL360 gen 10

Drives           6x   HPE 1TB 6G SFF internal drive (655710-B21)

Controller            HPE P408i-a SR Gen 10 raid controller

RAID 6

The complete array is being used by ESXi 7 (free) as a datastore.

I have tried a lot of things but can't find an option to expand the current array / logical drive.

- Run SPP for latest patches and updates

- SSA offline 4.15 ISO boot from system utilities

-  SSA boot ISO from intelligent provisioning

- Maintenance tools for array from intelligent provisioning (if i remember ok).

I see 6 drives assigned to the Array A, I do see the 2 drives I added appear in bay 7 and 8. They are identical to the other 6, only difference is they can be seen by OS and slightly different firmware. I can add them as spare drives to the array but the option to add them to the array is nowhere to be found. I have no smart cache but tried to disable the cache but still no result.

So what am I missing at this point to get the option to expand the array?

How do I find age of a DL/Appollo/BL servers

I have 300+ servers in my lab. I would like to find the age of each server by decoding the serial number. 

Is it possible?

All servers are less than 10 years old.

DL380 GEN9 - NVME Enablement Express Bay kit question

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would oblige sharing the limitations of installing/using the NVME express bay kit?

My points of concern are:

1) I been advised that if this option is installed, we can only use one GPU card.

2) Will this support all NVME drives or is it vendor locked? as we currently have Intel Optane NVME drives we'd like to use.

3) Does it require high-performance fan upgrade to function or is that simply a hardware-health advisory (ie heat).

 

Strangely enough I have been unable to get any "this is how it works" type of answers from resellers and HP techs. Hoping there is someone here who uses or has used this kit in their server and can shed some light or at the very least someone at HPE who knows their hardware like the back of their hand? (well it is last generation hardware)

indicate the boot order of my server's HDDs

Hello, please I need the indications to indicate the boot order of the HDDs of my server. My server has 4 HDDs, of which I only need to boot one and the other disks recognize them, but when entering the 4 drives it just doesn't boot and doesn't recognize the other drives, when I take out the other 3 HDDs, then the drive boots normal with a single HDD. Can you guide me on how I can make it only try to boot from 1 disk and recognize the rest of the disks. Thank you.

HPE MSA 2052 DRS

I have recently configured HPE MSA 2052 to use with Vmware vSphere 7.0 and came across below while reading best MSA 2052 practices guide.

Question: Do i have to configure anything in MSA 2052 to harness the benefit of DRS and I/O balancing provided by MSA storage array controller, or it is something happening by defaut.

Does it mean it is a subsiture for VMware DRS feature found in its enterprise licence offering?

VMware vCenter Datastore Clusters provide a feature called Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler (SDRS) with I/O load balancing. The intent of this feature is to balance and distribute VM storage needs across traditional physical disk based LUNs.
Because the MSA Storage Array controller and virtual volumes provide the benefits of DRS and I/O balancing dynamically, the VMware’s DRS and I/O load balancing are not needed with virtual volumes as long as all hosts in the cluster share the same MSA volume mappings.

HI This  https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/78389 preventing me from upgrading & VMW support says this. Can you advise pls ?

Yes, this issue is caused when drivers are built with older vmkapi version dependencies which are deprecated from ESXi 7.0 GA onwards. However, it is the vendors who will be releasing the new custom ISO for ESXI with the compatible drivers.

Therefore, i would suggest you to get in touch with the hardware vendor and they might have an ETA on when the new images will be released.

How to install Centos Linux on DL560 Gen 10?

We have couple Proliant DL560 Gen 10.  I need to create a bootable USB drive with Linux Centos 7 or 8 to do diagnostic from server to server.  When I boot the Usb key created with Unetbootin containing Centos 7 or 8, I keep getting "dracut- initqueue timeout" type of errors.  What is the most likely cause of this error?  Am I missing some HPE drivers?  Where can I get these drivers?

ML350e G8 - Will not power on.

Hi,  my server will not power on - it makes a rythmic tick noise from the psu and health light and power light dimly flash together  (red and green respectively)  once a second.

 

Is this a failed psu? or is it worse?

Hello!

I have just bought a used HP Server, a ProLiant DL360 Gen9 that I want to use for my private laborations. 

I tried to download the latest BIOS for this server and was presented with a support agreement pay-wall. 

How do I, as a private person, get hold of the latest BIOS for this used server?

Good morning,
I verified the following problem: "The computer shuts down properly. When I turn it on, the following message appears. Then it shuts down and starts working again."
I also attach the temperature specifications calculated with Speccy.

What could it be? I've already run all the updates. I assume it's a hardware problem. What do you think it could be?

DL360 Gen8 P420 Compatible SAS Drives

Hi,

does anyone know whether the following bare drive would be compatible with a DL360 Gen 8 with P420 controller :

HP 697387-001 300GB 15000RPM SAS 6GBPS SFF (2.5INCH) HARD DRIVE WITH TRAY FOR M6710 ENCLOSURE.

Could I put the bare drive in a Gen 8 Caddy and have it work without issue, including diagnostic info ?

FATAL ROM ERROR

Hello community. I'm a Foxconn employee at the Houston, Texas location and we service HP Servers. I'm working on a DL380p running Windows. During post I get an error message that states there is a FATAL ROM ERROR and my system ROM isn't properly programmed. At Foxconn we can replace any chip in-house including the physical system ROM part it's a U163. I've replaced that U163 ROM part twice, as well as the iLO ROM U164, the iLO chip itself U160, the ME ROM U149, as well as a few others. I've also tried to up and downgrade the system ROM firmware via the iLO log in page under administration>firmware. So far I have ended up sort on this issue and I have another board that does the same. I've asked ALL fellow associates on the matter and it's the first time they've seen this message as well. Prior to the error message I had an NMI red screen error. That prompted me to replace the system ROM U163 part and now I have the FATAL ROM ERROR message. Any/all info good or bad is greatly appreciated. I'll do my best to answer any questions one may have. Thank you for your time.

Accessing ILO4 Integrated Remote Console through tunnel

Hello everyone,

I have a Proliant DL20 Gen9. From the local network I can access the .NET remote terminal without any issue (I don't know why I get an UnsatisfiedLinkError exception when I try to use java web start). 

Now, I would like to access the remote console from outside the local network through an ssh tunnel. I have forwarded all the required ports: 17990, 17988, 443 and 80 but nothing happens when I try to launch the terminal, I am not even asked permission to run the application as I would be in the local network.

I have run some tests in the local network using network tools and it seems that the ILO4 website tries to download the .NET application from the internal IP address of the server as follows:

ServerILOIP: 192.168.1.103

AuxServer: 192.168.1.40

MyLaptop: 192.168.1.120

 - I set up an ssh tunnel listening on ports 17990, 17988, 443 and 80 at AuxServer and forwarding them to the same ports at ServerILOIP.

- From MyLaptop I open Microsoft Edge and I open https://AuxServer. I can log in and browse the ILO4 website normally. If I launch the .NET remote console, it opens and works normally.

However, when I launch the application, a connection is open from MyLaptop to ServerILOIP, port 80, to download the application. The query is: 

GET /html/IRC.application?addr=192.168.1.40&sessionKey=ffb2e05d06ea4fd73a718da31250e4f5&lang=en&port=443&alt_mode=0&cofc_goback=false 

Note that I connected to AuxServer with the browser and the important ports, including 80, are forwarded to ServerILOIP. The application should (and can) be downloaded from AuxServer:80, but it tries to make the direct connection. It is like the local IP of the server is hardcoded somewhere in the code of the website.

This seems to be why I cannot use the remote console from the outside, because it still tries to connect to the local IP address, which is not directly accessible. Do you know any way to circunvent this problem?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Recover data from failed HP DL380 G7 server

One of our HP DL380 G7 servers with 3 HDD configured as RAID5 failed this morning and the issue seems to be with the motherboard and the server does not boot up anymore as it powers off within 10 seconds of powering it On. Unfortunately this was the only Domain ControllerIs I had and did not have a System Level backup. Is there a way I can recover this server to get my AD (Active Directory) back?
