Microserver Gen10 Plus PCIe bifurcation support issue

It seems that it only support x8+x8 bifurcation.  Is it possible to support x4+x4+x4+x4 bifurcation?  I have a 4 x NVME slots card and it does not work on Microserver Gen10+.

HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 Performance - Server - tower - 4U

B120i raid card

On the hp logo screen where everything is initializing, i press f5 when it brings up the raid info.

This takes me to another screen.
When it says to press f5 to go to the raid interface, it acknowledges that i pressed f5 and says it will automatically go there.

Then the next screen is the windows logo and boots into windows.

What can i do to get into my raid card?

Best practice tips for DL380Gen10 fan speed

$

Hello,

We have some DL380Gen10 servers with 2x Xeon Gold 6242 CPUs each. These servers came with 256GB RAM (8x32GB) preinstalled from the HPE distributor. The CPU fans were configured on "Optimal Cooling" setting. These are setup on our datacenter with 21oC standard temperature. Each of the server has 14 SSD drives (1.92TB to 3.84TB) and a Mellanox Infiniband card installed. They run ProxMox with Ceph storage, they serve around 100 VMs and the CPU utilization is at 13%-15%.

A few weeks ago we decided to update them to 512GB RAM (16x32GB). Since then, on the temperature sensors we see a small increase on the ambient temperature of the servers. The CPU fans operate at 11%-15% and we do not see them going higher. I believe the extra temperature has to do with the amount of RAM which is now occupying the slots.

Should we change the fan speed to another setting? On the HPE website I see the following:

a. Optimal Cooling — Provides the most efficient solution by configuring fan speeds to the minimum required to provide adequate cooling.
b. Increased Cooling — Operates fans at a higher speed.
c. Maximum Cooling — Provides the maximum cooling available for the system.

What is the setting you use for this amount of memory? Would another setting (which would make the fans operate constantly at 30%-60%) shorten the lifespan of the fan modules?

DL160 Gen10 - Debian 10 UEFI install warning

Hi,

Succesfully installed my first HPE server yesterday. Although booting from the default Debian USB installer didn't work, the ISO could be uploaded via iLO perfectly.

At the end of the Debian 10 installation (during install of grub), I did receive a warning along the lines of

it looks like there may be existing operating systems already> + installed on your computer using 'BIOS compatibility mode'. If you> + continue to install Debian in UEFI mode, it might be difficult to> + reboot your computer into any BIOS-mode operating systems later.

I chickened out and installed grub instead of grub-efi to not lose access to any of the HPE utilities offered during POST/boot.

I would prefer installing grub-efi and am considering re-starting just for this. Does anybody know (1) if this will effectively block access to certain HPE applications (the warning seems to imply that this is not certain), and (2) if so, which applications this may be? If it's only the storage application, I can get by with the utilities in the Linux SDR...

Thx!

Move drives to new DL360 Gen10 server - does not automatically boot to OS

$

We had a server fail after atempting SPS firmware update and to get us back up and running, I moved the drives from the failed server to a spare we had.  After powering up the replacement server, it will not boot automatically to the OS.  Instead it boots to PXE.  If during boot, I select F11 and tell it to boot from the array, then it works.  But obvsiously the next time the server reboots it will hang at PXE.

Is there is something I need to do in the replacement server (either in the BIOS or the raid controller) to tell it to automatically boot to the OS, after moving the drives to it?

Thanks

NK

ProLiant DL360 Gen10 will no longer power on after failed SPS firmware updated

I tried using PowerShell to upload the lastest SPS firmware to the iLO repository and then scheduling that firmware to install on next boot.  The update failed but was able to boot to the OS.  I manually rebooted the server a second time but the server just shut down instead of rebooting and will not power back on.

The green power light just flashes and never powers on.  I cannot even get the server up to a point where I can try to fix any firmware issues that might be there from the failed update.  The whole thing is bricked.  I tried pulling all cables including the power cables and let it sit for 30 seconds.  Same issue - just flashing green front panel lights and will not power on.

Do I need to have the system board replaced?

Thanks

DL380p G8 P420i - Hard Drive Limitations (10TB sas drives not working)
I've been doing a fair bit of reading on the matter but have hit a few road blocks on the way. To summarize what I'm working with:

*Out of warranty DL380p G8 LFF (12 Bay) with P420i 2Gb cache.

*6 x 3TB HGST Raid 5 Array - Has been working for 2 years now without a hitch.

*VMWare Vsphere 6.5.

*Updated P420i firmware to newest 8.32.

*iLO4 updated to 2.61.

When i put my 10tb sas drive only blink few second and when turn off
And on smart array not detect it.
What should i do????

SA P824i-p and RAID10 write speeds?

$

Hi,

I have a P824i-p controller in a DL380 Gen10 server (Windows Server 2019). There's a RAID10 array on 16x (2 spans of 8 drives) 1.2TB 10K SAS drives (EG001200JWFVA), resulting in 8.73TiB logical drive. There's a SSD CacheCade drive (2x 480GB SSDs (MK000480GWUGF)) associated with that array, although it's a read-only type.

The problem is the write speeds the array is getting. Using ATTO Disk Benchmark I can see write speeds between 140 and 450 MB/s (64K-32MB IO size, 256MB file size) (read speeds pretty much around 3-4 GB/s).
To put it in perspective, I have a DL380G7 with P410 controller and a RAID10 array of 8x 600GB 10K SAS drives, and that array gets between 450 and 850 MB/s write speeds in the same ATTO tests.
I have also a DL380G7 with a P410i controller and a RAID10 on a 8x 146GB 10K SAS drives, and even that array gets between 360 and 900 MB/s write speeds in said tests.

Theoretically, RAID10 on 16x drives should give me ~7-8x the write speed of a single drive. I just can't believe a significantly newer 10K SAS drives to be getting write speeds between 20 and 60 MB/s...

What can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

replacing hard drives on ProLiant ML350 Gen9

Hello,

We acquired some time ago an HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen9 server, with a raid consisting of eight HPE 4TB 12G SAS 7200rpm LFF hard drives.

Recently we have purchased 2 spare hard drives, but they are slightly different from the ones we already have in the server.

The ones in the server have this number on them: 819079-001, and have a nice round green light on them.

The new spare ones, have this number: 834134-001, and have two small square lights on them.

I know that the old ones can be swapped without shutting down the server, but I'm afraid that the new ones have a lower profile, and don't allow a hot swap.

What problems can we expect with the new hard drives? should we return them to our reseller and acquire the same model we already had in the server? can we hot-swap the new ones? are they as fast and reliable as the old ones?

thanks a lot,

Juan

Help needed with HPE SSACLI - add additional raid array.

So I am running 2 Windows Server 2016 servers (hyper-v) & Core server

Seems that the HPE Smart Storage Administrator tool does not work 100% with core server (only ssaprefs.exe seem to work for language settings).

Found this:

https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-ml-dl-sl/smart-storage-administrator-and-hyper-v-2012-r2-core/td-p/6402079/page/3

Yet that dll will only make sure that the ssaprefs.exe can be started.

As alternative I have the SSACLI.

Type of Raid needed/wanted : RAID5

They are located physically in the following :

Physical Drive in Port 1I Box 1 Bay 20

Physical Drive in Port 1I Box 1 Bay 21

Physical Drive in Port 1I Box 1 Bay 22

Physical Drive in Port 1I Box 1 Bay 23

Physical Drive in Port 1I Box 1 Bay 24

Why the SSACLI --> So I don't have to boot from the ISO and thus have no downtime. (and the GUI not working).

If it would be easier to use the Powershell version of SSA it's also an option.

Its a new RAID5 array to be added as 3rd array (1x RAID1, and 1x RAID5 array already exists and was setup upon initial installation of this server)

If I look at the example it would need to be something like this:

CN01 ctrl slot=1 create type=ld drives=CN0:1:20-CN0:1:24 raid=5
How do I find out the name of the controller?
Examples:
("CN0" is a sample port name that may be different depending on the controller)
ctrl slot=1 create type=ld drives=CN0:1:1,CN0:1:2,CN0:1:3,CN0:1:5 raid=6
ctrl slot=1 create type=ld drives=CN0:1:1-CN0:1:6,CN0:1:9,CN0:1:10-CN0:1:12
raid=6

Power cable for P824i-p MR Gen10

Hello,

I'm new to this board and hope you can help me with my matter.

I recently had the luck to obtain a P824i-p MR Gen10 controller for a DL385 G10 system on eBay.

Unfortunately, the power cable for the backup battery wasn't included and the standard one doesn't fit for this special controller.

So I'm asking for advice where to buy that simple cable to make the controller caching fully work.

Thanks, Gay

ESXI 6.7 with ML350 GEN 10 and RAID 1

Hello,

i tried to install the ESXI 6.7 on my HP Proliant ML350 Gen 10, with two disk in RAID 1.

I get the following error message during the installation of the ESXI:

"logs are sotred on non-persistent storage"

Has anyone comes across this problem before ?

We are running ESXi 6.5 on Proliant DL380 Gen8 system.

We need to get into the Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) to configure the storage array. We want to configure the spare drive.

During boot up, pressing F5 is ignored and the system boots to the OS.

Sometimes we would actually see that the system detects that F5 was pressed but the system will still boot up to the OS.

If we Press F10 to try and access SSA that way, the system will also just boot up to the OS.

Anyone see this issue before?

What can I do to resolve this issue?

Hello:

I'm installing an array of HP 2.5 SAS drives into a DL380G7. I have no prior experience with Proliants servers.

The P822 controller tells me I should update the drive firmware to a minimum firmware of HDPA. The URL the controller sends me to http://hp.com/support/proliantstorage  alas has gone to the great 404 in the sky, & Mr. G is not finding a mention.

Any suggestions on where find such an update and installation tool?
