Server doesn’t boot from hdd

Dear all,
I have 4 hp dl380 g6, that 3 of them are power down as spare. The are raid 1( I don’t know hard or soft configuration). They have suse Linux.
I checked one of the 3 , but it doesn’t boot up from hdd, it goes to NIC in a loop and restarted.
I did theses procedure::
1- for BIOS:
1-1. Check the boot order, it is:
Ipl1: cd-rom
Ipl2: floppy drive (A)
Ipl3: usb (c:)
Ipl4: hard drive c:
Ipl5: pci embedded hp
1-2 by f11 choose item 4 to boot from hdd. ( no result)
2-test hdd ,
2-1- on the faulty server just for a very short time hdd led blink during hp logo startup
2-2- on faulty server hdd doesn’t have any vibration.
2-3- i put hdd to another server( replace the destination server hdds), it can boot up on hdds, so the hdds are OK.
3- power check
3-1- i Check the voltage pin out of 10 pin power connector of hdd, pin 1 and 5 are 12 volt, pin 6 and 10 are 5 volt( so the power seems ok),
3-2- i exchange the first power module of this faulty with another OK server, i put the power module of ok server on faulty server, but again it make a loop from boot drone NIC and restart!!
Based on 3 main test snow it seems that bios, hdd, and power don’t have problem,
Now I think on connection between hdd and mother board. But i don’t know how tho check and what is the best steps. And the before tests whether enough or not.
So would you please advise me.
Thanks for your attention.

FC card compatible

Hello,

I'm planning buying a DL380 Gen10 and a MSA1050FC cabin.

I have 2 brocade 300 FC switches, and I'd like to connect the server and cabin to those FC switches.

I see that the DL380 Gen 10 should came with a 16 Gb card, that costs 1000$.

As the Brocade are 8 Gb/s, could I use a 8 Gb Fc card with the DL 380 Gen 10 server? I know is not a typical configuration.

Upgrade to SPS v04.01.04.381 on Blade 460c Gen 10 breaks server

Hi everyone,

due to security reasons we upgraded the Intel SPS to the lastest version.
After the next restart - the server does not even boot to the bios. The screen stays black and the the firmware of the innovation engine throws an exception.

If we try to update the firmware (IE) from ILO we get the error:

2020-06-29_14h11_34.png

The last attempt to update or upload firmware was not successful. Make sure you are using a valid, signed flash file and try again. If you are attempting to install a component, first upload it to the iLO Repository then add it to the Installation Queue.

No matter which bin we are uploading - different ppl different clients.

We cannot use any recovery media as the server does not even come that far. We are stuck in "pre POST"

Anyone that can give us a hint how to proceed (we will open up a case shortly).

Best regards

Stephan

Hi,

i use a H241 controller with a connected Library. The Backupsoftware is VEEM. The controller is built into a dl380 Gen9. The controller is in a ESXi 6.7 and connected in a Windows Server2016 via Passthrough. The Backup is working. But the Block size is set to 64K. Is there a way to change the Block size to 512K?

Thanks

HPE SAS drive model number different than purchased?

Hello,

We ordered some 507119-004 drives from a third party supplier, to match the drives currently installed, but received  597609-001 drives instead.

They both have spare number 507284-001 and the supplier is saying that these are the correct drives - that several models/PNs are grouped into a single spare number and these drives will work together without issue.

Is this correct? Is there an HPE resource that explains this?

ILO4 bug - AMS turns back on after ILO Reset or cold restart

Hi,

Just noticed that if I disable AMS under ILO4, after an ILO reset or a cold restart the AMS turns back itself again. My ILO4 version is the latest (v.2.73), the server is a Gen8 Microserver (latest BIOS). If I just watm restart the machine, it stays disabled.

Is this the normal behavior or do I need to report this via some other channel to get this fixed?

Gen 10 Intel X710 SR-IOV Only on one network card??

We have DL360 Gen10 with x2 Intel X710 Dual 10Gbe Nics on board. One is Mezzanine embedded and this enables SR-IOV fine, the other is another x710, but PCI-e, and allows you to enable SR-IOV for this also, but it disables itself after a reboot.

It seems only one card can have SR-IOV enabled at a time.
Does this sound "normal" ?

HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Nvidia Grid K2 not recognized

I am trying to add an NVIDIA GRID K2 to my HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 but I am not having any success.

I have the following configuration:

  • NVIDIA GRID K2 Reverse Air Flow Dual GPU PCIe Graphics Accelerator
  • Two E5-2620v2 processors.
  • The GRID is installed in the secondary position
  • I have two 1200W PSUs installed.

A couple of things I have noted:
I get no power on the second 10 pin plug on the secondary riser, even though I have two 1200W PSUs. I am using an external power source for now.
The PCI-E Slot 4 shows as Empty in iLo 4

I would appreciate any suggestions, this is very frustrating.

ProLiant DL560 Gen9 selected Firmware baseline not supported

Hi all,

i created a custom SPP on https://spp.hpe.com/custom/ from 'Production SPP 2020.03.0' and selected all our HP Proliant server models which are DL 360, 380, 560 and 580 in Gen9 and 10. I included only Firmware- and BIOS-Packages because i only want them to update.

I connected a DL560 Gen9-Server with my Custom-SSP and booted it with 'automatic firmware update' option.

After analysing the machine it says 'The selected Firmware Baseline is not supported for the given server.'

Why is this server model not supported from my SPP?

Corrupt SPS on ML350 Gen10 - cannot install newer version

Hi everyone.  I have a ML350 Gen 10.  Yesterday I did a System ROM upgrade (to 2.34) which seemed to go fine, rebooted, during post got the message "3019-Server Platform Services Firmware in Recovery Mode. SPS firmware image is corrupted. -System Halted!"

Now from reading other posts it seems the correct (and obvious) course of action is to update the SPS.  This is where I have the issue:

Using ILO 5 (2.16)

Uploaded SPS 4.1.4 to the iLO repository.

Created the install job in the Installation Queue.

Done the reboot, the same thing as above happens.  Basically in a loop.  The install job never actually starts.  I've reset, cold powered, even pulled the power cords over night hoping that the next time it powers up, the job will start, but it never does.

I've even go through with the SPP disc, that did the inventory and uploaded its own files and created its own jobs but the same thing happens, after the reboot the install never begins to run.  Kinda worried now I've bricked a multi-thousand dollar server...

Any advice on how to get this SPS updated would be welcome.  For what it's worth, the currently installed version is 4.0.3 and the firmware intergrity check does show it's corrupt.

Help!!!

Thanks!

Server not powering on, flashing green power button and red health led

After resolving my SPS corruption issue (https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-ml-dl-sl/corrupt-sps-on-ml350-gen10-cannot-install-newer-version/td-p/7093825) I went ahead and installed the latest firmware for the SPS with the server powered off.  Installation went fine, confirmed in the iLO all was well and server needed to be powered back on.  Trying to do so, the power LED immediately flashes green and after about a minute the health led flashes red.

Obviously the update got screwed somehow... how can I recover this?  I tried downgrading the SPS back to the previous version but now I keep getting that the "The last attempt to update or upload firmware was not successful. Make sure you are using a valid, signed flash file and try again. If you are attempting to install a component, first upload it to the iLO Repository then add it to the Installation Queue" even though that's what I am doing...

Replacing A "Predictive Failure" State Disk

$

Hello everyone,

I have a Proliant Server running a P420i controller with two disks with the configuration below:

- Port 1I - Box 2 - Bay 1: 300 GB

- Port 2I - Box 2 - Bay 5: 600 GB

-- SAS Array A;

--- Logical Drive 1 (80 GB, RAID 1)

--- Logical Drive 2 (398,7 GB, RAIC 0)

The 600 GB disk has entered predictive failure state recently. This server is the main Domain Controller for Windows Active Directory, with other key services running (DNS, DHCP etc.) and is also the file server, meaning that I cannot afford to lose this server, at least for now (it is a ten year old server that I'm looking to replace soon, but I still have to convince my superiors).

I had a spare hard drive which I've installed on the Port 2I - Box 2 - Bay 6 (right below the one with error) and set it as Active Spare in HP Array Configuration Utility, but I don't know if this is the correct proccess (probably not), as it is only shown as Active Spare but it doesn't seems to be really active.

So, what should I really do now? Is there a way to copy all the data from the failing disk to the new one and set this new disk as fully operational and remove the failing one?

Thank you for your help.

What is the best power mode for redundant power supplies?

Hi, good afternoon.

I recently purchased another ML110 G9 with two redundant power supplies. And I've been digging around inside the BIOS to see if there was anything in the configuration of these power supplies, and I found whatever is on the screenshot.

Which of these modes would be best for the power supplies?

iLO Amplifier Active Directory LDAP support, nested groups and case sensitive logins

$

Hi

I would like to mention several issues in the hopes that:

1. Others will find out what the issue is before wasting a load of time.

2. HPE might address the issue in an update...

So, the issues:

1. The username to login to iLO Amplifier seems to be case sensitive... The default account is 'Administrator' and 'administrator' does not work.. That is pretty unusual, so should be mentioned on the login screen itself in my opinion.

2. As per #1, when using LDAP login the username appears to need to be all lower case, ie 'domain\firstname.lastname' or similar. If any part of the 'username' entry is upper case, the login seems to fail.

3. It appears that nested groups do not work. If you add group 'ILO admins' to have access to iLO and then within that you have 'Service desk team' and 'Infrastructure team' and within those you then have all of your users, it won't work, at least it doesn't for us.

These 3 things have taken me a while to confirm and I have wasted more time with support because they kept blaming our AD, FW etc. and had no clue about these limitations.

ML350 GEN 9 with Expander Card

Hello,

I'm struggling with HUSMM111CLAR1600 drives which are recognized with a transfer speed of 6gb/s instead of 12gb/s.

we're using the following Controller Smart Array P440 Controller #749797-001 along with the Expander HP 12G SAS Expander Card #727250-B21

After some research, I noticed that the expander card is not compatible with the ML350 G9, could this be the issue?
