Help with HP Prolliant ML310e G8 Storage Array

I recently acquired 2 X  HP 310e G8 V2  32GB  P420-1 Servers , I Installed Windows Server 2016 and configured and updated all required Bios / Firmware  and drivers ,  The server has onboard SATA and an additional Raid Controller P420 - 1MB installed .The raid controller is connected to a Chassis which can drive 8X SFF  SAS HDD , every thing seems to be working  I can boot using SSD through the motherboard SATA  which was previously connected to the CD ROM , As the raid card is working I can also boot through the SAS HP 146 GB drive which is installed in the Cage .

Going Forward I want to install 8 X 1TB SSD Drives . When I installed a single WD or Kingston SSD using the HP HDD Adaptor for Gen 8 Server the SSD is not recognized or picked up by the raid Card  , I have tried using 250Gb drives still nothing , I have moved around the HDD slots still nothing .

I have previously done upgrades on HP G6, G7 and G8  DL 360 and DL 380 servers  going completely SSD and never had this issue .

My Question is do I need additional drivers, Firmware or something to get SSD to work with the ML310 are  there any limitations.

HP DL380p G8 fans 100% & iLO lockout

Hello, i've recently aquired a used DL380p G8 and have encounted some problems which I have had trouble diagnosing over the past few days. The server has ESXi 6.7 installed.

The Problem:
About 5-30 minutes after OS has booted the fans will ramp up to 100%. When this happens I can no longer access the iLO 4 webpage. The OS is unaffected and runs normally.
Before the fans ramp up, iLO is accessible and temps read fine.
The only error in iLO event logs are "iLO memory error detected at x" (x seems to be DIMM slot address) which may be a red herring but I did try some things regarding that. This error is continous and may set off some limit which is why it may be related.
Nothing is reported in Integrated Management Log as if nothing is happening.
None of the lights on the front or motherboard change or seem out of place.

What i've tried:
Removing HDDs, PCI devices all of them.
Taking all the ram out, testing a few of the DIMMs one at a time in one of the DIMM slots in each channel. The "iLO memory error detected at x" persists with every DIMM I had in the server with x changing when changing the DIMM slot used.
Borrowed and tested a DIMM out of a 360p G8 which has experienced no issues. The problem persisted, although had a bit more success., one time the fans peaked but recovered after about 2 minutes. The memory error disapeared. After reboots I failed to replicate this though.
BIOS, ROM and ILO Firmware all up to date.
Reset BIOS to factory defaults.
Pulling out CMOS battery.

I think it might be related to the memory error, even though some of the ram in this server is the same as the DL360 G8 so I believe it's compatible, but im not expert. Maybe a problem with the DIMM slots? Motherboard issue or iLO issue?
I haven't been able to find many similar cases on the internet and this has really stumpted me, any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks for reading,
Oliver

iLO AD integration on port 636

Hi

Please can someone confirm if iLO MUST  connect to AD using SSL port 636?

For example - if the below fails to connect then iLO integration with AD CANNOT work

1. Start the Active Directory Administration Tool (Ldp.exe).
2. On the Connection menu, click Connect.
3. Type the name of the domain controller to which you want to connect.
a. You must use a proper DNS name for the SSL test to work.
4. Type 636 as the port number and check the SSL box
5. Click OK.

I can connect using port 389 using Ldp.exe without the SSL checkbox ticked but using Ldp.exe on 636 with SSL fails to connect - I'm I correct in thinking that until I get this sorted I won't be able to integrate iLO with AD???

many thanks in advance

I know this has been around but it doesn't seem to make any sense. I can have the exact same model drive in the same system and some of them complain and some of them do not.

I have a P408i-p SR Gen 10 in a ML110 Gen10 server. These are the drives and their bays:

Bay Drive Firmware Status
1 HP EG0600FCVBK HPD5 GOOD
2  HP EG0600FCVBK HPD5 UNAUTHENTICATED
3 HP EG0600FCVBK HPD5 UNAUTHENTICATED
4 HP EG0600FCVBK HPD5 GOOD
5 HP EG0600FCVBK HPD5 UNAUTHENTICATED
6 HP EG0600FCSPL HPD2 UNAUTHENTICATED

It doesn't really make sense that Bay 1 and 4 are good when the others are not.

P.S: HP why are you going to include an editor on your form that allows you to use tables but then you don't allow the post to go through because it has "invalid HTML". Come on.

Does anyone know of a way to disable the USB ports on a DL380 Gen 10 box?   I've tried a couple of Redhat google suggestions with removing driver files, but that didnt work.

I just had circuit break flip. When it flipped I heard a pop where my server and desktop are located. After returning from resetting my breaker, I started turning everything back on. All item turned on as always except my server. I started troubleshooting and even replaced my system battery. I have back ups on external drives. I have searched several forums and saw the same issues a blinking light near the system maintenance switch. The power button amber, the power status amber, system health LED is green, and the UID turns blue when pressed.

HP DL380p G8: Maximum RAM Speed with 24x 32GB LRDIMMs

Hello all,

I some questions regarding our two HP DL380p G8 server:

  1. Server 1 has 24x 32GB LRDIMMs (14900) with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2680V2
  2. Server 2 has 24x 16GB RDIMMs (14900) with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2643V2

Currently server 1 is running with 1067 MHz clockspeed for RAM. I have checked the HPE online tool for RAM configuration. The tool says with our configuration we should be able to run with 1333 MHz instead of 1067 MHz. I´m not sure if this is correct or not?! Maybee anyone can answer us the qestion.

My second question, is there a quite difference on performance betweeen the 1067 and 1333 MHz. We run a view Terminal Servers based on Windows on the server.

On server 2 it is the same, the RAM speed is lower as the possible maximum supported by CPU and RAM. But I think this is normal when you use all 24 DIMMs, but on server 1 it is 800 MHz less what the memory can run.

Thanks in advanced

Proliant DL360e Gen8 - P822 RAID5 mistake

Hi!

I have an Proliant DL360e Gen8, with an HPE Smart Array P822 controller. I'm using it with this configuration:
Bay 1 and 2: Sandisk SSD 250 GB
This 2 disk is the first logical volume with RAID1.
Bay 3-4-5: Sandisk SSD Plus 1TB (sdssda-1t00-g26)
This 3 disk is the second logical volume with RAID5.
Bay 6-7-8: HP SAS 300GB
This 3 disk is the third logical volume with RAID5.

I've had a disk fault on bay 5, and I didn't have replace disk, so I ordered one with the full same version. I've replaced the disk but the rebuild doesn't started. The new SSD is recognized by the computer, iLO shows the valid serial number, but it says the Disk status: Failed. I've downloaded the officical sandisk software to maintain the see the new disk condition, but it says it 100% health. On the new disk i've run a full clean so it doesn't have partition or partition table.

There is only one difference beetween the old disks and new one. The firmware version on it, which i can't downgrade on the new one, and can't update on the old disks without data loss.

I've tried to disconnect and reconnect disk, nothing. I've tried to stop the whole computer, unplug each power cord for 10 minutes, then back. nothing. The light on hot-plug is an orange disk icon, so it says disk fault too.

If someone else is faced a problem like this please share the experience or solution with me, because in this volume I'm running a several VM and if I had to rebuild the logical volume, i will have a huge dropout.

DL380 G10 Smart Array SNMP Trap for disk replacement not received

Hi,

We are testing DL380 ILO SNMP alert. It's configured with P824i-p Smart Array controller and AMS alerting services. When we pulled the disk, we see two SNMP alerts, cpqScsi5PhyDrvStatusChange and pqScsi3LogDrvStatusChange. When we replace the disk, the ILO web portal shows the disk is replaced and indicator turned to green, yet there is no SNMP event sent to show that the drive status has returned to normal.

Any clue why there is no clear alarms being sent when the disk is restored?

ILO FW Ver - 2.14

HP DL380P G8 with System Power Fault Detected

I bought an old HP DL380P G8 server, initially it worked fine, I updated the bios from 2013 to 2018, after restarting the server, it was no longer working as it was, the lights on the circuit were still on, I can still access ilo however the machine is not working fan is not spinning and cannot re-enter the bios, the machine is almost off. I went to ilo and found the error code below, every attempt to mount such as deleting the bios and nvram on the S6 button, removing the riser and the hard drive circuit, was unable to fix it, I could not downgrade the old bios 2013 because the Hp did not load when i have logged in.
Any help I would like to thank.

HPE DL20 Gen10 - RAID Adapter

$

We have a new D20 Gen10 Server -  It is having problem installing the Windows Server 2019 OS ...  also tried 2016 Server os with the same result.

It shows "Windows cannot find the Microsoft License Terms"

Now of course I did some research on this and it seems that there are a few possible issues for this problem.

One thread suggested reseting the bios to default which I did -  and for some reason it no longer sees the embeeded RAID adapter.  when I go to configure the RAID - there is now no longer a RAID adapter present.

It does however still show the two internal Drives which is where the OS is to be installed.

This is to be a stand alone server so No VMWARE is present and will not be virtualized...

So .  I have two questions.

1.  How to get the RAID adapter to show back up to the system.

2.  Having done a little more research on the Above OS install error of : "Windows cannot find the Microsoft License Terms"   It looks like this is going to turn out to be a Driver issue on the RAID adapter that is not on the installed media..  I have the driver downloaded but unsure where that is to be interjected within the install process..  Once you click on on the abover error -  The system does break out onto a command line  at a   X:  prompt.

How to tell if I can hot swap drives on my Gen 9 Server

$

Hi all,

is there a way to check if a drive is considered to be hot swappable on a DL 360 gen 9 series server? We plan to swap out some 200gb SSD's due to wear and replace them with 400gb drives of the same type under warranty. The guides seem to indicate this should be able to be done via hot swapping (the affected drives are in a RAID 1 pairing behind a P440ar controller with 2gb ofcache and configured to use HPE SmartPath). We are swapping

MO0200EBTJU HP G8 G9 200-GB 6G 3.5 SATA MLC SSD

for

SPS-DRV SSD 400GB 6G SFF SATA WI-3 QR (Part  882148-001 ).

I guess I just wanted to  double check this is ok as I'm struggling to find any definitive information.

thanks.
