10G Nic Fine tune for iSCSI traffic, Win 2019 and Nimble

Hi everyone, i woud like to ask if there is an HPE Advisory or Best Practice for fine tuning  10G nic cards for iSCSI traffic on Windows 2019 (jumbo frames, Numa Nodes, RSS, etc).

We are planning to create a Win 2019 Hyper-V failover Cluster, we have 3 DL380 Gen10 Servers with one 562FLR-T nic (2x10G ports) on every server dedicated for iSCSI traffic. They will be connected to two HPE FlexFabric 5700 10G Switches. As a storage we will have the Nimble HC20 (iSCSI with 10G Controllers).

HPE Proliant D360 G8 & D2600 shelf shows Degraded (Drive Enclosure Port 1E Box1 in degraded)

Hello.

I have Proliant D360 G8 connected to D2600 shelf.
in the ILO it shows that the storage is degraded on Drive Enclusure Port 1E Box1 
the D2600 all in green  (except the amber light that shows fault but everything in green ), Fans are working , all the disks in ok, Psu and cache also in green status.

i checked the IML and other than 1777 error and 2 months ago about fans that were replaced 
nothing more than that.

there are no visible HW errors.
anybody has an idea?

Able to gain access to RBSU, but can't make changes

Recently, I had a power surge and knocked out my PSU on my HP Proliant ML110 G7. I just received my new PSU and installed it today. The server started right up. However, my S/N and Product numbers are no longer showing under system options on the RBSU.. Second issue, I am unable to make any changes on the RBSU. I am able to scroll up and down but no changes. I can't even update the data and time. I have tried several keyboards and no joy. Third issue, I am unable to access my iLO 3. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

HPE Dignostic util gets systemdiags.efi.sig file not found

I have installed Intelligent provisioning 3.46 (latest ver) and after that when I try to run the diagnostic util I get another error, SystemDiags.efi.sig not found. 

I have tried to turn off the secure boot but still same failure, I have also updated the server to the latest spp 2020.03.2 but still same failure, SystemDiags.efi.sig not found.

Is it possible to put the sig file manually to the boot, where can I get the sig file from?

Dears,

Our Data Center contain nearly 50 HP servers (from G5 to G10 all are DL,and ML)

currently we are evaluating the installation of two new UPS's that operate as follow :

UPS A will take all the load anytime when the main power goes down and it will continue to operate until reaches its %10 of its power then it will pass the load to UPS B with a delay of 10 milliseconds 

i know this migh be silly but the vender brings this to our attention 

is HP Power Supply's can take that 10 millisecond delay or they just do arestart instead ?

HP proliant Gen10 Server RAM upgrade

Hi I have been looking to upgrade my ram on the home server which currently only has 8GB and had looked to upgrade it to 32gb.  I  looked at a few modules but the 2 x 16GB modules installed the server powers on as normal bur nothing wont boot. 

When I checked the RAM its PC4 2400T RE1-11 but when chech the RAM currently is PC4 2400T ED1-11 should it need to be this or should it work?

smad fails to communicate with ilo5

Hi!

I have a ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server running CentOS 8.2. I want to monitor my system with nagios and installed amsd.

But it doesn't seem to work. After a few seconds the smad service is started it begins to report that it can not communicate with iLO:

If I let it run the logs get filled with many "No response from iLO for Hello" messages per second.

In iLO5 the Agentless Management Service remains in state "not available"

I first tried with amsd-2.1.0 from SPP and then upgraded to amsd-2.1.1 downloaded from the HPE support center, neither worked. I did not do any special configuration, I just installed the amsd package with yum.

Some infos:

amsd package version: amsd-2.1.1-1412.2.rhel8.x86_64

OS version: CentOS Linux release 8.2.2004 (Core)

Kernel version: 4.18.0-193.19.1.el8_2.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Sep 14 14:37:00 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

iLO module version from /sys/module/hpilo/version: 1.5.0

iLO firmware ersion: 2.30 Aug 24 2020

System ROM version: A40 v2.42 (07/17/2020)

 

What might be wrong?

What can I do to make it work as expected?

Any idea anyone?

hello everyone, I have this problem for almost 3 months and I couldn't find any solution for it on the internet so I decided to put it here. I have 2 logs in my ilo that I think my server freezing is because of that, the server is  dl380 g9, and server 2019 is been installed on it.

the problem is my server freeze and I have to restart to work fine.

Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Failed restart. Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Restarted.

Advice please? DL380 G7. Drives not recognised. Raid controller questions. NEWBIE

Hi all. i hope you can advise. 
I bought a DL380 G7 server with 16 drives (10 900gb + 6 146 gb)
The seller (bargain hardware) advised before purchase "No RAID, RAID & HBA-Mode controller options available. The 'HBA-Mode' controller options will come with single drive pass-thru enabled and may not have other RAID levels immediately available."

I took that to mean they don't have required card to configure drives at post, but O/S or smart start cd (8.5..) ACU could configure it.  However,  thats not the case.
.The attempted install of O/S does not see the drives, so can't continue, despite loading compatible drivers from usb.
.ACU sees the P410i, but with a big yellow exclamation/warning. again no drives.

So i am thinking i need a card or other hardware.  Can you advise please ? Will i just need a SAS EXPANDER?  i looked on amazon (uk) for "HP 468406-B21 SAS Expander Card for HP Smart Array".  

As my server has 2 cages of 8, do i need to get 2 sas expanders?
Will i need anything else ,or,  will this even fix the problem??

Please let me know if i am barking up the wrong tree.  if you need anything else please let me know.  currently the device and hardware is all good as far as the diagnostic utility reports, apart from ACU of course. 

i am a newbie (and autistic) so please forgive me if i dont understand some concepts or abbreviations immediately.

Thank you all for any advice and links to components as well as any explanations.

*EDIT* ok. so i need a raid controller card? and cables.  but will a single raid controller card alone serve two 8 x drive cages (SAS A and SAS B)?  I guess an SAS expander is only any good if i have a raid controller first?
Also,  the current riser card only has 4x PCIe.  Should i get an additional riser with 8x PCIe for the raid controller/s?

Help with DL20 Gen10 NVME card installed - all Fans at 85%

I get new DL20 Gen10 Server with 4SFF model, I use it for my home lab with other DL320E G8 and DL20 Gen9.

I installl a 1TB NVME SSD card(micron 2200) direct to systemboard nvme slot. after I install it and boot up, system fan all run like crazy.

I switch Win server 2019 and Vmware 7 (HPE Version), all with install the Agentless Management app or vib . After I remove the NVME card, Fan1 and 2 low to 6% . fan 3 still 48%. 

in OS mode, the NVME card are working fine, I run speed test in win os, it could save or load file , benchmark software test it to 29xx Mb/s read speed. Just the DL20 fan noise not good for human survival.

Once time this system only install win 2019 with 4sff , the fan 3 lower to 24% with agentless management app. I don't know why it doesn't drop down the speed after system boot up to OS now.

Reinstalling amsd on DL360 Gen10 running Ubuntu 18.04

I'm trying to install amsd on a DL360 Gen10 running Ubuntu 18.04. I have two related issues.

I wanted to create a bond with two of the NICs. I configured it in /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml. When I was doing that I deleted a virtual NIC that I now believe may have been used by amsd.

I'm now trying to recreate that virtual NIC but don't know how.

I'm also trying to reinstall amsd to see if that fixes the problem but I'm getting the following error.

 I've done a lot of troubleshotting round the errors, "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)" and "package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127" but nothing is working.

Disable disks on Gen10 Array Controllers

Hi,

we need to disable some disks temporarily in our ProLiant DL380 Gen10 servers, but the array controllers are set to mixed mode, which cannot be disabled. With previous array controllers, it was apparently possible to make certain disks invisible to the OS simply by leaving them unassigned from an array, but now with Gen10 some greedy 3rd party installation ISO always grabs all available disks, which is what we need to prevent.

I was able to "hide" the HDD's by defining them as spares, but for SSD's that workaround doesn't apply.

Is there any solution other than physically removing SSD's during the installation?

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Hello folks,

I'm using the following setup:
- HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 Server
- HPE SmartArray E208i-a Controller
- 2 HPE 1TB SATA Disk

Problem:
Since the Raid-Controller was not supporting ESXi, I ordered the E208 Raid-Controller. While he was arriving I installed ESXi7 on the Disk to practice the setup, worked fine.
Now my Raid-Controller arrived and I want to setup RAID 1 for the HDD's.
So therefore I used the Secure Erase Feature to wipe the Disk back clean, since it was only testing enverement with no backup.

But now I have the problem that I still can't create and Array because the Disks doesnt show up anymore.
I've updated the SPP on the server again and it should be good to go.
In the F9 BIOS I can see the Harddrives, but can't do anything with em.
Does anyone know what is the problem here or can lead me to a solution?
Sadly I can't find any information to that problem..

 I did observe this message "localhost kernel: hpilo 0000:01:00.2: Closing, but controller still active" under /var/log/message. What does this message actually convey? Any idea?

Unable to boot after NVRAMN reset

Hello
I have performed an NVRAM reset on my DL380 Gen10
After the reset the server cant boot the Linux OS. Linux starts in some recovery mode / troubleshoot mode.
-Is it possible to restore the boot config from the uefi shell? mabye by running some bcfg commands?

when i run bcfg driver dump i get: no options
