Good morning,
We have the following server on which we want to expand with new 2TB (4x 2TB) disks, that is, we currently have 4x HPE LK0480GFJSK-SC (480GB 2.5in SATA-6G Mixed SSD)
Infos
Server HP ProLiant DL380 (Gen9) + Smart Array P440ar in Slot 0 (Embedded):
Internal Drive Cage at Port 1I, Box 3, OK
Internal Drive Cage at Port 2I, Box 0, OK
array A (Solid State SATA, Unused Space: 0 MB)
logicaldrive 1 (894.2 GB, RAID 1+0, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:3:1 (port 1I:box 3:bay 1, Solid State SATA, 480.1 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:3:2 (port 1I:box 3:bay 2, Solid State SATA, 480.1 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:3:3 (port 1I:box 3:bay 3, Solid State SATA, 480.1 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:3:4 (port 1I:box 3:bay 4, Solid State SATA, 480.1 GB, OK)
And we want to insert/expand with 4 new disks without losing data:
4x HPE 2TB 2.5in SSD SAS
The question here is how to do this upgrade without losing any data or the array? What is the most recommended way?
We think about doing:
Solution 1)
- Full backup to a new disk of the complete disk image -
- Take the 4 discs out
- Delete the old RAID 10 array
- Restore the backup image on the 4 new 2TB disks
Solution 2)
- Replace the 4 old 512gb discs, one disc at a time with the new 2TB discs and let them rebuild until the end.
- Use "Online array expansion / capacity expansion / logical drive extension" in Smart Storage Administrator to increase free space with new 4x 2TB disks without messing with the array
What advise?
Are the solutions reliable or advise another? can you help us?
Thanks in advance.
