Brand new DL380 G7 fans question

$

Just booted up a brand new DL380 G7 and noticed the fans going full blast.  Eventually this machine will be moved to my datacenter, but for the time being I'd like to build/configure/etc in a staging area I have in my office - I'm just concerned that something might be off because these things are blowing like crazy and I'm in an air conditioned office space.

In the BIOS I saw that you have a choice between optimal and increased cooling, I left it at the default optimal - Power is also set to Balance Power&Performance which I believe was also the default.

I haven't bothered installing an OS yet, the only thing I did was configure ILO, just wanted to check and see if there is something I'm missing as the fans seem to be in overdrive for no reason at all, unless of course they're meant to do that by default :)

How can i entry to ILO Configuration Options for HP Proliant ML10

DL380e G8 + P420 - P420 crashing

Hello,

i have new DL380e G8 with P420 1GB BBWC + 8xSATA RAID 10, running Debian Jessie. Problem - P420 is crashing under load after 3-5 days:

P420 in slot2:

Aug 14 06:51:26 zaloher smartd[2296]: Device: /dev/sda [cciss_disk_00] [SAT], failed to read SMART Attribute Data
Aug 14 06:51:26 zaloher smartd[2296]: Sending warning via <mail> to root ...
Aug 14 06:51:27 zaloher smartd[2296]: Warning via <mail> to root: successful
Aug 14 06:51:27 zaloher smartd[2296]: Device: /dev/sda [cciss_disk_04] [SAT], previous self-test completed without error
Aug 14 07:15:09 zaloher kernel: [233654.188156] hpsa 0000:0a:00.0: cmd_special_alloc returned NULL!
Aug 14 07:21:26 zaloher smartd[2296]: Device: /dev/sda [cciss_disk_00] [SAT], failed to read SMART Attribute Data

checking hpacucli is randomly working/not working 2-3 hours and after it it definitely lost P420 and server hangs.

Two weeks before (different P420 in slot3, same server):

Onscreen info:

hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: cmd_special_alloc returned NULL

hpsa: 0000:0d:00.0: report physical LUNs failed.

Buffer I/O error  on device sda1, logical block XXXXXXXXX

...

Aborting journal on device sda1-8

...

server hangs.

In both cases in ILO is P420 active and all disks present (green status). No error in Health log etc., just high temperature (as usual on P420).

We are using Debian Jessie (kernel 3.14) on G6/G7 servers with p410 under load without problem. Only G8 (kernel 3.14,3.16) with P420 is hanging, when it ran 5 months without monitoring and load, no hangs occured.

Firmwares tested:

BIOS P73: 02/10/14, 11/12/2013

P420: 1.86, 5.42 (latest)

Any help or i need open case with HP? We dont have payed support.

NIC Teaming

Hi All,

Running Windows Server 2012 R2 on DL360p G8.

I am trying to build a two node hyper-v cluster running on 2 x 10 gig HP 5900 switch, all drivers and frmware are up to date.  The switches are not stacked.

During the initial testing, when I copy a large file between the servers, I got 2 GB/s.  Now when I team two of the NICs (it is showing as 20 GB/s) and I only get 1 GB/s???  Why does my performance drop when I team the NICs?  The NICs are 530SFP+.

The teaming mode is switch independent, load balancing is dynamic and standby is none.  Even when I select the standby mode as active\passive I onlyl get 1 GB/s

TIA

Cannot update HP Intelligent Provisioning on DL380p Gen8

Hi All,

Hopefully someone here can help.

I need to get Windows Server 2012 R2 running on a Proliant DL380p Gen8 server.

According to what I can find, the only way to do so is through Intelligent Provisioning v1.60

The server was at v1.40 so through IP I tried to run the firmware updates and it kept erroring out.

Created a HP USB Key with the IP ISO.

Everything seemed to work, starts booting into into IP and then gets just past the HP flashing logo.  Looks like I'm just about to get to the spot to where I can perform maintenance or install...

Then it just dumps me off to the Linux screen:

Warning!!! Unable to mount the file system

Dropping to a shell. Good luck!    <sheesh thanks>

/bin/ash: can't access tty; job control turned off

How do I get this to work?

Proliant 320e Gen8 SFF mounting options

Does anyone know of a good option for mounting the HP Proliant 320e Gen8 sff server in a wall-mounted enclosure? I have APC AR100HD enclosures that the standard HP rail kits are too long to fit in to. So far I have not found any other option, is there one?

thank you!

HP ProLiant ML350 G6 - F8 to access iLO2 setup doesn't appear

Hi:
We have a HP Proliant ML350 G6 server. We disable the iLO 2 on this server due to constant error messages into Windows event log and since then, the fans started to spin faster than usual. Then we wanted to re-enable iLO 2; for this:
* Turn off the Server
* Set the Switch S1 in position ON
* Wait for the message "press F8 to access RBSU"  appeared, however it never did. The F8 key, however, leads us to the ROM configuration for Array Utility.

We send pictures of boot screens.

Hope you can help. Thank you

DL380 G5 Teaming Fail "A fatal error occurred - error code not recognized. Error code = 1"

Hi,

I recently tried to TEAM the 2 NICS on a DL380 G5 running Server 2003 SP2 32-bit but got the following error code from the HP Network Configuration Utility after around 120 seconds:

"A fatal error occurred - error code not recognized. Error code = 1"

The utility then quits and creates a failed teamed NIC in network connections, but doesn't show a TEAM in the HP NCU itself. The server networking carries on running all ok through the original NIC. I tried this several times and ended up with 4 failed NIC TEAMS which i had to delete from device manager.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening please? Or any way to get a look at any log files for this error as the event logs are empty?

For info, the NIC's are HP NC373i Gigabit with HP driver 6.0.32.0 and I installed the latest version of HP NCU.

Many thanks.

James

I'm installing a brand new HP ProLiant DL380e Gen8 - Xeon E5-2403V2 1.8 GHz - Server (748204-S01) and have added a second Intel Xeon E5-2403V2 - 1.8 GHz CPU (708495-B21).

The server stops i POST with status code 5808.

And shows this error as well:

245 - Processor Power-on issue: Processor 2 did not power up.
Action: Confirm installed processors id the same model. If so power cycle.
If not resolved, reset or swap processors. If the issue persists, contact
   HP service.

As far as i can see the processors is the same model.  Any suggestions?

Microserver Gen 8 stops recognizing array

Hello,

I have a brand new Proliant Microserver Gen8.

I've done  the following:

- I updated Intelligent provisioning to 1.6.

- I created a mirror RAID.

- I installed Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation.

- Started installing Windows important updates and rebooting after request.

After a few reboots (requested by windows update) the server displays an error screen and the reboots to display and screen asking for language and then repair options.

Seems like it stops to recognize RAID since diskpart can´t see no disk.

SmartArray shows everything fine.

I started everything again and then the same result.

Any ideas?

Raid Advice On DL360 G7

Hi.

I am quite familiar with HP Proliant servers and Also Windows Server OS's

But today I was called out to a DL360 G7 running SBS2011.

It has in total 4 Hot Swap Drives and one of them is flashing amber.

Usually I would go into the HP ACU APP underwindows and find out what the raid situation is and the steps to take.

But when I go into ACU it says no controllers detected.

I can only presume that this is because the SBS2011 is running virtualised under VMWare ESXi 5.0.0.

I am not familiar at all with this Virtualisation Host

I have posted a questions on VMWares website and they have given me a very long winded way of looking at the raid array and finding out the issue with the drive.

So I was wondering is there anyway of getting the raid and drive info under windows ?

Any help greatly recvd.

Thanks in advance.

Just a question, can you put a MSA500 on a DL380 G3. HP's web site does not show that you can. It on shows the MSA500 attached to the DL380 Packaged Cluster server

We have just got a HP proliant server DL380 G3 with 4 x 36.2 hot pluggable HD. However the Smart array can only see a total of 68GB with RAID 5. This is not normal as for the RAID 5, the HD size should be at least 108.6GB.

Grateful if somebody can help.

Disks and array SNMP monitoring does not work on DL* G5/G6/G7 with Windows 2012 R2 Server Core

$

We can't get SNMP monitoring of disks/arrays/controller to work with our DL* G5/G6/G7 servers running Windows 2012 R2 Server Core. It works on Windows 2012 Standard though, so it must be something related to the Core editions.

HP Support claimed that it's untested on 2012 R2 Core, and may or may not work. But couldn't give us any more specific help or troubleshooting..

We've tried different versions of the "HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions" package. All from 9.0.0.0 in 2012 to the latest 9.60.0.0, but no luck.

The issue is that polling the cpqDriveArray OID tree (1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3) only gives short ouput of the MIB revision and such, but the OIDs for physical disks, arrays and storage controller are empty. Wev'e confirmed this with HP SIM and manual SNMP walking of the OIDs.

snmpwalk -v2c -c public 192.168.112.51 .1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3

iso.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 1
iso.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.1.2.0 = INTEGER: 52
iso.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.1.3.0 = INTEGER: 2
iso.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.2.1.4.1.0 = INTEGER: 120

The storage CLI and WBEM can get this info, so it's only an issue with SNMP and the Management Agents package. However, our monitoring system doesn't use WBEM so we need SNMP to work.

All other hardware monitoring, such as temperatures, fans etc, are working via SNMP.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Johan Karlsson
